Sixers And Nuggets Announce Trade

RealGM Staff Report -
Philadelphia 76ers President Billy King announced today that the Sixers have acquired forward Reggie Evans and the rights to forward Ricky Sanchez from the Denver Nuggets in exchange for forward Bobby Jones and forward/center Steven Hunter.

"We are excited to add Reggie Evans our roster. He is an accomplished rebounder that we feel will make an immediate impact and will exemplify our commitment to hard work, rebounding and defense," said King. "At 6-11, Ricky Sanchez is a young prospect that has potential and we will continue to monitor his development as he plays overseas." [READ]

Re: Sixers And Nuggets Announce Trade

Good for both teams. Nuggets needed a backup C, while adding a young shooter in Bobby. Sixers needed a good rebounding PF, and they added one in Evans.

Re: Sixers And Nuggets Announce Trade

I like this trade. Hunter is a hard worker, he will be an alright back up and I really like Bobby Jones. Reggie wasnt getting much time with us anyways so it cant hurt us.

Im interested in what Slic thinks hes seen a lot of Hunter also.

Re: Sixers And Nuggets Announce Trade

Since the primary motivation for this deal was money. Hunter is both cheaper per season and has 1 less season on his contract, I won't be surprised if Bobby Jones is waived

I heard that Bobby Jones plays a sweet game of golf...maybe he'll be able to get the Grand Slam again.

I like it for the nuggets more than sixers. Hunter is a homeless man's camby, but more durable, which is great considering how fragile the rest of their frontline is.

I hope they keep jones though. I like the guy, think he's almost as good as diawara defensively, and less of a bonehead on offense.

Re: Sixers And Nuggets Announce Trade

You know, Bobby Jones can be Bruce Bowen-lite, which is exactly what the team needs if Iverson would be put at PG. He's already has the defensive skills, and has a decent, if inconsistent, three-point shot.

One on one, even one on two, when the guy they call the Answer is on a one-way trip to the basket, you better just foul him. People can hate all day about the number of shot attempts. But, damn, give him props for even getting them up. He's small enough to have every shot contested. That 39% shooting sounds terrible to the regular reader, but have you seen these NBA players lately?"

Re: Sixers And Nuggets Announce Trade

i like reggie evans. i suspect he will add a lot to the sixers. but not surprised by the trade since nobody expected Evans to get a lot of time this year. Hunter should be a good backup to a fragile Camby so its an ok trade. you've got to clear the glut of forwards somehow, id personally preferred to keep evans, but this was a money deal and also a camby insurance deal.
We all know the front court is ok with Melo, Nene, Camby, Kmart etc. its the backcourt that i've taken issue with since Melo was drafted.
If Atkins and AI start together i think that puts denver in some major mismatches defensively. Is Atkins going to guard Kobe. I mean seriously. With this roster id start JR Smith at the two, but he has to continue to progress (opposed to regressing) and show up in the playoffs this year.
And if AI is the point guard.... its a good and a bad thing. kind of a double edged sword. I hope they stagger AIs minutes so he can cover all the floor time Melo is taking a breather for. Atkins is going to be a great shooter off of Melo. AI is becoming a team player... I still think he believes he can only be effective with the ball in his hands. Hopefully he can learn to feed melo and move without the ball. Maybe cut to the basket or run off a pick and get open... score that way instead.

I heard from a buddy that their is a minor league team project that allows your average fan to be a part owner. Basically you buy a share and you get to vote on basketball operations. I guess this includes the coach, players and all the other stuff. The website is currently guaging interest in the IBL. It isn't the pros but it still is basketball. Sounds better than running some pointless fantasy team.

Re: Sixers And Nuggets Announce Trade

And here I thought Bobby Jones retired in the mid-80's. Kind of funny that that Bobby Jones played for both Denver and Philly. I wonder if this is the first time in NBA history that two players with the same name have played for the same teams.

I like Reggie's game and wish that things had worked out better for him in Denver. I assume this trade means that we can expect Kenyon to be playing serious minutes with stable health. I've never been impressed by Hunter, but he's durable and good for a few minutes a game at either big spot. But his stats will be thoroughly underwhelming. He's a stopgap hustle guy at best.
