Nuggets Set To Sign Jelani McCoy

Rocky Mountain News -
Center Jelani McCoy, a seven- year NBA veteran, said he will sign a non-guaranteed deal with the Denver Nuggets , according to the Rocky Mountain News.
Nuggets big men Kenyon Martin, recovering from right knee surgery, and Nene, nursing a bruised right calf, will be slowed when camp starts Tuesday. That could give McCoy ample court time.
"I'm sure it will, and, hopefully, I can show them something," said McCoy, who has a 4.7 career scoring average.
Good move by the Nuggs. He'll give us some depth and competition in the post. If he isn't needed, he'll be the next Jamal Sampson on our team. Good move.

Well, at least I've heard of him. I assume he's cheap. He'll probably be a slight upgrade over Sampson.

Keep in mind, though, that I'd be a slight upgrade over Sampson. I could at least write a witty blog or give the occasional funny interview. I don't expect Jelani to have much (read: any) impact in Denver, especially if Hunter works out as a serviceable backup, and Kenyon's knee holds up this year.

He'll be good to have, though, if KMart doesnt' come all the way back or if Nene can't lose the extra weight he's put on.

Mccoy wouldn't get minutes anyway. Sampson couldn't even get any when we were thin upfront. Karl plays who he likes, which usually has nothing to do with need or effectiveness on the court.

Agreed. I figure McCoy is insurance for the insurance.
