Smith served a 10-game suspension last year for his role in a fight with the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden and was injured in a car crash last summer in New Jersey that killed his friend, Andre Bell, 21.

Smith, who drew coach George Karl's ire last year for firing up long jumpshots in the playoffs, will miss Denver's opener Oct. 31 against Seattle, as well as games at Minnesota on Nov. 2 and home against New Orleans on Nov. 4.

This isn't working. I don't like the way Karl has handled J.R., but this isn't worth the trouble.

Kind of what my opinion has grown to be on the whole situation as well. Hopefully we can still get something for JR, because I still believe he holds some value. And I still strongly feel we need a coaching change, preferably someone who's a better player manager. Adelman was my pick for awhile when he left Sacramento, but now I'm not sure who I'd like to see the Nuggets go after now.
