Boykins beats thyroid woes

As if being the shortest player in the NBA isn't enough, Nuggets guard Earl Boykins has a scar on his neck that offers a daily reminder of how nothing has come easily in his career.
Boykins, 5-feet-5, 133 pounds, beat the odds to make it into the NBA after not being drafted out of Eastern Michigan. But in five previous seasons and five stops around the league, he never had signed a contract for more than one year. Before Boykins finally reached his dream, signing a long-term deal with the Nuggets last summer, he learned during his physical that he had a thyroid condition, which temporarily held up the deal.
"He went through all of this to get this one opportunity to get a decent contract," said Earl Williams, Boykins' father. "And now it looked like there was one last obstacle."
The Nuggets, however, were committed to signing Boykins no matter what.
