Sheed not going to NY!

http://www.detnews.com/2004/pistons/...e03-192567.htm

AUBURN HILLS — A week ago, Knicks President Isiah Thomas threatened to make life miserable for Joe Dumars and the Pistons.

He indicated he would pull out all of the stops to sign free agent Rasheed Wallace.

Well, Thomas is apparently waving the white flag now.

In an article in the Newark Star-Ledger on Tuesday, Thomas all but gave his concession speech.

“I would say we have maybe a 1 percent chance — maybe,” Thomas told the paper, of signing Wallace. “I’m sure Detroit is going to do everything it can to keep him. It’s a great situation for him.”

The most the Knicks could offer Wallace was a deal starting at $5.5 million. The Pistons can offer as much as they need to.

Wallace will officially become a free agent on July 1. He can sign with any team as early as July 14.]

I think that the New York Knicks were the only team that Rasheed was going to be a threat to from the pistons standpoint. It was never really about the money, Sheed just wanted to go to the East Coast and his wife likes NY. No one else has showed to much interest in him, especiall teams west of Detroit, because Sheed has already made it clear that he would only go East. I think Detroit is going to give him a deal he can't refuse, especially since of their economic sucess last year, and the fact that we have no cap in signing him.

For a guy that is given so much credit for helping the Pistons win a championship, you sure dont hear a lot of talk about him. All I heard was the Knicks. Seems a bit odd to me. I guess his reputation is still hurting him.

Anyone think Philly has a shot at him? It is his home town and I also believe its his wifes home town as well. I know know what there cap looks like off the top of my head.

I don't think his wife likes Philly. I only say that because if she did don't think you they would live their in the offseason instead of Portland?

Thats easy to do if its just him and her. But when you toss in 4 kids things get harder. Kids have dance, and sports, and band, etc. Plus its much better for an athlete to stick around the town he plays in. Easier to make contacts for life after the NBA. Thats just my opinion.
