Season Recap: Pistons take aim (must read for Pistons fans)

"My old strength coach in Milwaukee (Tim Wilson) used to tell me that pain is just weakness leaving the body," Pistons forward Darvin Ham said. "We have had our share of pain this year, but it's just made us stronger. I feel like going into the playoffs, we are as strong as we've ever been."

"We have dealt with a lot of issues, but we've come out of it pretty good," team president Joe Dumars said. "I have the ultimate belief in the core people we have here, and that core has not cracked. With all the stuff that went on this year, our foundation never cracked.
"You want to talk about the character of a team, this group hung in and held together and wound up with another great season."

"All I heard was people saying how great we were for the game, and now they want to legislate against our defense?" he said. "To me, instead of looking for ways to help offenses, they need to figure out ways to get kids more skilled in passing and catching and shooting. That would solve the problem."

"No, I never thought I was losing the players," Brown said. "The players have always been great to me. I just felt so bad about putting everybody in such a bad position, first because of my hip surgery and then later not really knowing whether I was going to get better.
"But the players have always been amazing to me. They never said anything to me and I am real close with some of them. They call me up, talk to me all the time. It was never an issue."

"We have good veteran leadership on this team, and everything that came up was kind of taken care of in-house."
The Pistons aren't the consensus favorites to repeat as champions. The Miami Heat are considered be the team to beat in the East, while San Antonio, Dallas and Phoenix are getting most of the attention in the West.
This is amusing to the Pistons.
"We don't care. We're still the champs," Rasheed Wallace said. "That's just some TV commentators talking. There are some peasants in the kingdom throwing rocks at the throne, but that's OK."
Said Rip Hamilton: "You know how this league is, some days they think you are the greatest team in the world, sometimes they don't think you are the greatest team in the world. ... We know we won the championship last year and until someone beats us, we're still the champs."
