Diving McDyess concerns Brown; Forward motivated by ring

Quote:
Pistons coach Larry Brown tries to quell his nerves every time he sees Antonio McDyess dive for a ball.

Or go into a crowd for a rebound.

Brown cringes inside, praying McDyess' surgically repaired right knee doesn't come undone.

Thankfully, Brown's fears have been pointless ... so far.

"And I think as the season has gone on, he's become more comfortable than I have," Brown said. "I still worry, because he's relentless. He still dives for balls, he goes after balls. I really believe that next year we are going to start to see more of what he did when he was younger. He's made unbelievable improvement.

McDyess also admits he has additional inspiration, something that's been in the back of his mind.

"I don't have a ring, and they do," McDyess said of his teammates. "That's my motivation right there, to get past this round and get a little farther to just get a ring."

I love McDyess and his attitude, and his ability to stay clear minded while the rest of our time occasionally finds themselves in a lull. He is like a rock, always balanced, and if Rock Financial wants to use that in a commercial they can just hook me up with some of those sweet sweet seats.

As far as Dice diving goes, you just gotta love his attitude. I believe he actually broke his patella (knee cap) at one point during his stint in New York, I'm not sure if that's what he hurt back in Denver or not but that would be enough reason for Brown to panic everytime he goes down...

'Kay, I did some research.

Quote:
[T]he devastating injury suffered by the Knicks' Antonio McDyess in an Oct. 12 preseason game. Here's a guy who just about a year ago partially tore the patella tendon in his left knee while in the Denver Nuggets' training camp and required season-ending surgery after limping through only 10 games. Since then McDyess was traded to New York, worked his way though a painful rehab, appeared to be fully recovered and was declared by all the Knicks' faithful to be the team's latest savior. Then came that fateful preseason game against Phoenix. McDyess had already logged 38 minutes, and the game clock registered 1:55, when he jumped and reached for the moon, intending to dunk the ball before he landed.
So he tore the tendon when he was with Denver, and then additionally broke it. Yikes. That's a messed up knee.

Re: Diving McDyess concerns Brown; Forward motivated by ring

I have no criticism of McDyess what so ever, but does anybody wonder if he should try to do more on offense than just take jumpers? He does it amazingly, he was one of the league leaders in fg %, and against tough competition, I think it should be his main attack, but I think perhaps his jumpers success has made him neglect the other parts of his game. On offense he doesn't do anything else unless he was just set up nicely or is all alone. I think when Dumars brought him in he wasn't expecting a primary jumpshooter, even though it was a great surprise.

McDyess answering fan questions on the Pistons playoff page:
Quote:
Q: What did you do to perfect your fade away jumper? You’re so good at it! I'm a post player and I’ve been practicing it! I'm ok at it but would like to be better.
-- Kayla Verbeek

McDyess: It just came to me actually. I just worked on it after I got injured. I learned that I just can’t start jumping over people. I just tried to perfect the jump shot and post turnaround jump shot. I just practiced and practiced.

If McDyess could keep that jumper but keep the nastiness that made him such a kick-*** player in Denver then we would be set. Unfortunatley he is suffering a mild form of Vince Carteritis.

I don't know I think Dice cares a lot, it just doesn't show in his emotions. Did you see him after he got that and one in the second quarter of game 4? He was yelling and pumping his fist. His demeanor on the court is kind of like Tayshaun Prince, where it doesn't look like he's really into it but he is.

Dice has a nice low post game and I wish he'd used it a little more too, but when you constantly knock down that turnaround J it's hard ot tell him to stop. He has some nice post moves though, like his up and under move.
