Re: Jalen Rose/Michael Finley in a Pistons uni
My ideal situation would be we get Michael Finley, because the stupid Canadian in me wants Jalen Rose to stay in Toronto. Contrary to popular opinion we need Rose's presence to get us through the struggles, or to at least help us start getting on the right track. I wouldn't mind having Finley though instead of Rose. Rose would be better off the bench offensively but there is something about Mike Finley that reaks of Antonio McDyess all over again.

That’s because the Pistons have no one on one players. Every one of the Pistons players succeeds in the flow of the structured offence. The only player who has anything even resembling a one on one game is Billups (and you certainly do not want that from your PG).
Note: Even his one on one play is more for himself then others. He is not a drive and dish PG and he has yet to show the ability to collapse opposing defenses with penetration (and pitch).

I love Rose as a player and person, but there's no sense of sugarcoating his sometimes selfish play as a good thing. You don't just cut players who averaged 19 ppg. He has the ability to take his man off the dribble and I consider him to be a good player as well, but he can hurt his team with his play.

As one of your starters I would agree but as a 6th man selfishness (confidence in ones offensive ability) is a plus. Most prolific 6th men play a selfish game (both Corliss and Vinnie "the Microwave" Johnson can be considered selfish type players out for their points).
Note: I find the notion of Rose being selfish and cancerous to be overstated.
What Rose brings is more needed on this particular Pistons team then what Finley brings IMO. He is a superior ball handler and one on one player (both off the dribble and in the post). He is a better passer as well.
-------
With a bench that cannot score consistently and a starting SF prone to disappearing (offensively) in big games perhaps a selfish type player (off the bench) would create a nice change of pace. A player on the wing that you can give the ball to and say, "give me points" (for both himself and others) is a luxury that the Pistons do not have.
Ginobli does it for the Spurs and Rose can do it (though in a different way) for the Pistons.
...13 points in 30 minutes from Rose would do wonders for the Pistons bench.

You know the more I think about this.....I dont see Rose or Finley coming here....would they accept being a bench player getting like 15 minutes a game? Would Rose want to come back to Michigan this close after the whole fab 5 fiasco went down? I dunno

He could easily register 30 at the 2 and 3 alone.
Hamilton (34), Rose (14)
Prince (32), Rose (16)
...His ability to play effective minutes at the point is a potential mismatch too enticing to pass up IMO.

There are roughly 30 minutes available for either one of them and a potential starting spot if Prince somehow manages to reassume the role of curious George.
For some reason I simply do not see Finley accepting such a role. Not when there are other contenders (Houston, Indiana) capable of offering a starting spot for his services.
With Rose however I sense a chance (due to his ties to the area).

Re: Jalen Rose/Michael Finley in a Pistons uni
I think Rose is a great fit just to be clear, but he still has to walk that fine line between beng selfish in a good way and just jacking up shots. Maybe a winning situation, some vets in his ear, and hopefully LB can all work together to keep him in the right direction.
I'm a mismatch guy so I like the fact that he can create a lot of those and after thinking about it I think I'd rather have him over Finley just because he's probaly a more realistic choice and on his versatility alone.
