Pistons' postgame bus hit with rock
June 27, 2005
Apparently Detroit isn't the only town that produces basketball fans with good throwing arms.
When the Pistons' bus was on the way to the airport after Thursday night's Game 7 in San Antonio, about a mile from the SBC Center, somebody threw a rock that broke a window on the passenger side.
"Everybody shouted, 'Oh, (bleep). Get us out of here,' " bus driver Joe Arebalo told the San Antonio Express-News.
Officially, though, the Pistons decided not to file a police report on the incident or complain about the security measures, and the bus made its way safely through the throngs of celebrating Spurs fans.
"They were all heckling us, but it wasn't that bad," Pistons spokesman Matt Dobek told the Express-News. "They were cheering, 'Go, Spurs go.' ...
"It was just one fan. These things happen. No one knows that better than the Detroit Pistons."
Other than a few arrests and major traffic problems, San Antonio police said the postgame celebration was peaceful. There was only one shooting, they said, and it might have been gang- and not hoops-related.
