Player Evaluation - Ben Wallace Fifth year as a Piston
36.1 MPG, 9.7 PPG, 12.2 RPG, 1.7 APG, .453 FG%
This is not a poll rating how good are players are. We've been talking about that for the last 3 years. What we're seeing now is how well the 2004-2005 roster lived up to our expectations.
I had big expectations for this guy coming off our championship season. It's unfortunate he never really got into any sort of groove until the last few months of the season. That being said, he is still a helluva player and the biggest reason for our succes. Come on Ben, let's have an even better year next year.
As well as he did towards the end of the year I can't help but remember how frustrated we were during the early part of the season with his play. Not because he couldn't put the ball in the basket, or get his legs under him. He just seemed lazy. His stellar play toward of the end of the year actually brought my opinion of his play this season up to 'below my expectations' even. The season is 82 games long.

His body was hurting for awhile then his brother dies, then the suspension. The pure fact he get his act together in time to win the DPOY got him good grades from me. No this wasn't the Ben we saw 2 years ago but this was still Ben.

You're really beginning to convince me otherwise, but in the world of proffessional sports adversity is adversity and how deal with it is what makes the difference between an good player and a great player. I think Ben Wallace is/can be a great player.
True enough. I'm not ashamed to stand by what I voted even still though. As the leader of our team I would expect him to play as good as the season before. Always.
