Because they wouldn't give us Josh Smith. He has shown that he'll probaly be a good player unlike Darko. If Darko comes out and bombs this season his value will be at an all-time low. I'm not saying Al Harrington would be a savior and I'll even admit that Darko has more potential, but Al has already put up 18 and 8, and I'd just go with the safe choice. As Pistons fans we've already seen the damage he can do. He's a guy that can take smaller forwards down in the post and a guy who can drive by bigger power forwrds

I would agree they probally would decline Smith but JD knows Darko still has a lot of value within the league and I think everyone agrees we could probally get someone who could help us more then Al.

I dunno.....Harrington left Indiana because he wanted to be a starter...there is no way he would come here and be a backup player getting 15 minutes a game....If he did come here he would be very upset and it wouldnt be worth it....But if Harrington would let himself be a bench player I would be all over this one...he is a player that can come into a game and flat out score....

I've come to my own conclusion that Darko probaly won't even play this year. Could anyone really see him getting burn over the Wallace's or Dice? Or maybe even Maxiell. I understand for the most part they can/will play two positions apart (Darko - center, Maxiell - SF, PF), but I'd rather have Al Harrington than Darko as a piece Flip gets to play with. He knows how to win and he'd be anothe long guy that Flip could throw into his zone defense sets.

On a related note.....am I the only one that is annoyed with how stubborn Joe Dumars is over Darko? There have been plenty of players that have come into the league with talent that have been busts....heck there are players that have come into college with talent that have been busts...

I was talking to Brian and we both agreed that this would potentially be the only problem. Although I think he'd get more than 15 minutes a game (Tay's minutes could stand to drop, as well as Rip's), he very well may have a problem with coming off the bench. He's still young so he more than likely would rather establish himself as a player, but maybe he misses the days where he was part of a winning team and would welcome that back. But I do think all that would be settled before the trade was done. Who knows maybe this is the reason Dumars turned the offer down...

I am, but for the most part I trust Joe will make a decision based on waht's best for the team. He's not afraid to admit he made a mistake evidenced by him shipping Rodney White and Mateen Cleaves out for 2st rounders when it became evident that they weren't good players. Maybe he knows something we don't -- at least I hope he does, because I'd be all over this trade.

EDIT: Not to mention Harrington is only 25 years old, he's still a young guy himself.

Or Flip could give Darko 10-15 minutes a night and we could actually see what the kid can do in meaningful NBA situations. If he doesn't pan out, oh well, where's Otis Thorpe these days?

Not a part of the Deal at all for Either Team I'm a Knicks fan , but if this Report is True I would think it was Joe Dumars that Contacted the Hawks . Why .....



Because in order for Darko to play for you're Team he will have to become a Much better Defender & Rebounder . However at this point in his Carear Millic has no where near the Level of Defence & Rebounding required on a Championship team that relies on Team Defence . Since Putting Darko on the Floor at this Point for you guys will cause a vacume effect causing break downs in your D , since oppinsing teams will eat Darko up with there starters & quailty backups . Making Ben's Job impossible because now he does'nt have someone who can at least man up in the post to free him to play off the ball as he does with Sheed & Dyess . Darko will make Ben Play on the Man normally a Bigger man thus sappings Ben Effectivness , because while he's a great on the Man defender he's an even better of the ball defender . Also darko does'nt have the Shot blocking Skills required to play No D & stay on the Floor ala Amare Stoudimire , nor is Darko the Rebounder Amare is .


So with all that being said you have 2 years left to trade him under his rookie Contract & at this point , since your not going to play him on your team meaningful minutes to help him progress . Because your at the Stage of the game of Team progress over player progress , so that hurts your leverage in negotions . Since the clock is ticking on his contract & he's shown no on the floor NBA appitude for longer then 2 games , So teams will begin to grow ever skeptical as to why he's not playing . Thus lowering there offers & To be Honest with you not only does Al Harrington fit in Perfectly with you Guys putting you over the top . I Also think thats the absoulte best you can do unless you deal with a height stare team looking to make big moves like the Knicks-Lakers-Celtics-Raptors-Philly , so unless you think you can get better from a team like that you're best bet is to trade Darko now rather then later

I still can't believe ESPN did even have anything about Darko on their rumor central update today, I have to believe that means Detroit has no intent on making a move here. If Detroit was actually trying to move Darko, I am sure some press would be publishing it already outside of the guess and check NYC papers.

After the summer league games this year I guess Dumars decided to cut bait. Larry won't be there to tell him "I-told-you-so". I for one don't really want Darko in Atlanta -- they may do something dumb like try to make him a Five?

Atlanta's a couple of years away from winning. Harrington may have wanted to start but I think he's got starting for a losing team out of his system . Your team may need someone to give a little push to your bigs (since Flip is not known for that) Al's shooting and post play maybe just what you need.
