Re: Dumars to Knight - Darko for Al Harrington : (link)
And what if Darko flops, it's more realistic to think that he will than he won't. Give me the proven guy over a question mark. Of course my opinion is made just off what we've seen on the court, but i don't see how Garrington won't be a good fit.

If Joe D thinks Darko is a flop I bet you he can get us a player that helps us more then Harrington. This is a guy who got a first round draft pick for Rondey White lol

I think you're seriously underrating Harrinton. He has more value than a first round pick. I mean think about what guys like Chris Webber, Tracy McGrady, and Shaquille O'neal were traded for, then think about how we'd be getting a 18 and 7 type guy for a guy who basically has done nothing so far in his NBA career.

I was using White as an example for Joe Dumars ability to trade when we have lost hope in getting anything in return.
Al Harrington isn't a player I have anything against. I know he can score and rebound and cause match up problems. When push comes to shove, I don't want to trade a phyiscal freak who's about 7'2" for a undersized 4. I just don't think it's worth us risking what Darko could be for possibly a one year rent. Who is to say Harrington even likes it here and wants to stay beyond next season? Remember Ben and Prince get new deals after season too, we can't tie up all that money and blow by the luxury tax.

I understand that and I even brought it up earlier on. He's not afraid to admit a mistake, but by trading Darko for a player with a higher value isn't admitting a mistke, it's making a move to make your team better. I don't know how many times it has to be said that this isn't the Darko Pistons, it's the Detroit Pistons.

All that would be worked out before a trade is made. Dumars wouldn't just bring a guy in who he thought would be a problem. Anyways speaking of the cap all these deals will lap over each other anyway and like I said earlier with the way the GM's are throwing out money you don't think Darko is going to get a good deal? He'll get more if not than same than Harrington and Harrington's already proven he'll at least be worth it. I probaly wouldn't make the deal if we didn't already have 3 big men and a 6'7" big man outplaying him already. I just don't see Darko getting on the level of either of the Wallace's or Dice, so his "production" and "productivity" will be easy to replace.
All I know is Darko better turn into a hell of a player. And maybe me not seeing Darko ever become a 20 and 10 guy has my view slanted a little.

Murphy's law states if we trade him he becomes NBA MVP. If we keep him who knows. It's a risk no matter what we do but thats the fun of it. We have two years invested in Darko, I don't see why to give up at this point. I knew Darko wasn't going to be traded because Flip already give away the answer at his press confernce. The only returning assistant coach is who? Darko's buddy, Igor Kokoskov. Igor of course is on the coaching staff for the same country Darko will be playing for this summer. Nothing against Igor but I don't think theres a chance in hell Flip or Joe Dumars brings back Igor if Darko was on the way out.

I hope Detroit does this trade or atleast trades Darko. kamego I have never met a guy who liked Darko's game so much. He doesn't fit the Piston's roster well. He isnt a defensive beast or well he doesn't have the fearlessness. I think Al would be a great fit but if Pistons fans are still hanging onto Darko go ahead. People are still very high on this dude and I think you can get a lot for him

As I have said a few times in this thread, I am not against the trading of Darko if we get something we need in return. I think we can get a better deal then just Al Harrington. When it comes to picking between Darko and Harrington, I feel better off with the upside because I am not worried about next season. I am worried about 3 to 5 years from now when Rasheed is probally already traded and Ben is old enough to have his level of defense affected.
If I was going to trade Darko get me a 2 or 3 that can impact this team.

Worrying about 3 to 5 years from now got us in the situation we are in now. That's a long time from now and we should worry about that when the time comes.

Honestly what do you think Harrington is? He's more than capable to play the three. I feel more comfortable at the three than with him at the 4. He can play both positions effectively, but he's a mismatch on offense for three and he can defend 3 positions. It's almost like calling Eddie Jones an undersized three because that's the position he was forced to play because of the Heat's personnel when in reality if he went to just about any other team he'd be able to return to his normal position. I'd have no problem with bringing in McDyess and Harrington. It sounds a little more menancing than Darko and Dice.
Anyways I think it's more than clear that I'd do the trade and you wouldn't. Guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

I agree to disagree for sure. I was just stating my side of the case on this one lol. I think it's the fact Larry Brown didn't worry about the future, that we are in this mess in the first place. If he would have played Darko a few minutes a game and developed him maybe he would be able to atleast put up some numbers from off the bench? Maybe maybe not, atleast he might have been in better mental shape that way. I guess I just plan ahead farther then everyone else lol

Re: Dumars to Knight - Darko for Al Harrington : (link)
Just what the Pistons had to say about this whole thing
http://www.freep.com/sports/pistons/...e_20050727.htm
Quote:
|
The Pistons never offered to trade Darko Milicic to the Atlanta Hawks for small forward Al Harrington, despite a report that they did, Pistons vice president John Hammond said Tuesday.
|
Quote:
"It's something that is almost ongoing," Hammond said of calls about Milicic. "Darko Milicic has a lot of value in this league, and there are a lot of teams that would love to acquire him through a trade. We get trade offers on Darko a lot, especially at times like the trade deadline and during the draft."
"He is an investment of ours," Hammond said.
|
Quote:
Hammond said Joe Dumars, the Pistons' president of basketball operations, lumps Milicic along with the starters on an informal untouchable list.
"Joe hates to have an untouchable list," Hammond said. "But people kinda know that if you call for Chauncey Billups or Ben Wallace or any of those guys, people in the league know they're kind of untouchable.
"Over the course of the last few months, Darko has kind of somewhat been in that category."

Re: Dumars to Knight - Darko for Al Harrington : (link)
Let Darko play his game (Could you imagine Dirk playing at 5??? This guy is one of the best player because he has his style and he can play his style)... LB was a Darko's cancer, he destroyed him... As a coach, you have to respect your players... LB didn't respected everyone. Give him a chance to show what he can do and then we can say he is a bust or he is a great player.
P.S. Did you forget 04/19/05???
