AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- The Detroit Pistons exercised their team option on Darko Milicic on Thursday, keeping the 20-year-old center under contract for the next two seasons.
Quote:
"We are pleased to have Darko Milicic signed through the 2006-07 season and we look forward to seeing his continued growth as a player," said Joe Dumars, the Pistons' president of basketball operations. "Darko was able to play a lot of minutes during summer league this July and we are happy that he is on Serbia-Montenegro's roster during the European Championships this September."

Wow, a GM that's actually happy that one of their players is playing on their national team. It's kind of refreshing but then Darko doesn't play a ton and any competitive experience is a plus for the guy.
I think everyone (including the haters) are looking forward to see his growth as a player.

Everyone wants to see him play to see if he is good or bad so they will know if they were right or wrong.

I think this was done to "kill" the Darko trade rumors before someone else gets the ball rolling on another rumor. He's her to stay till at least then.

Or was it because Larry Brown was having a get together in NYC? We are countering Larry already.

Each side will look at it in their own way. The Darko haters will say this is because they wanted to keep their blunder under wraps and maybe trade him away during the season or something. The Darko lovers will say that this is because they see the potential in him.
Either way Darko has the potential it's just will he ever tap it.
My personal opinion is that Dumars has told the new coach to give this kid some actual meaningful minutes.

Good luck finding those minutes over Wallace, Wallace, McDyess, and a rookie who so far has outplayed you. If we switch to zone we could get away with some Maxiell and Sheed at the 3, but I guess I've made my stance well known on this issue.

Well when I say meaningful I dont exactly mean down by two with 1:45 left in the game. I just mean something other than 2 minutes left during a blowout.

My thought is we see him play mostly in the 2nd quarter like LB used him a few times last season. Atleast at that point we know it isn't crucial game time and we can still let him play a little bit.

Not that Detroit is taking any risk by saying that anyway, because he has almost 0 chance to get into SCG's final roster. Will get some minutes in a couple of friendlies during preparation and that's about it.
