***Matt Dery Answers***

Sports Director, WDFN, Radio in Detroit, AM 1130. Pre-game, half-time, post game host of Pistons Radio Nework has agreed to a one time question and answer with our posters here.

Brian

Thanks for taking our questions Matt "Diesel" Dery. As a regular listener of the fan I enjoy the work you do for the pistons.

One of my beefs with the pistons is Carlisle's substitution patterns no matter how good of a 1st quarter a guy like rip or chauncey has they almost always get pulled come the second quarter. Do you feel that Carlisle should sometimes stay with the hot hand?

What position do you think is a bigger need for the pistons next off season SF or C?

Rebraca's irregular heart beat has kept sidelined for awhile do you see Rebraca returning this year at all? and with the impressive play of Okur do you think that Rebraca will be back next year?

Who do you think would be the tougher series for the pistons in the playoffs the pacers or the nets?

Thanks diesel... btw cleveland sucks (just kidding man)

As far as Rick's substitution patterns, I think that earlier in the year he
was looking at everybody. It just so happened that they won most of those
early games, playing against weak teams, so he was able to meddle a bit with
his rotation. I think Rick does a fine job with his subbing now.
Pistons would love to get a center. Prince is the "3" of the future.

I think if Mutumbo is healthy, the Nets will win the east and knock off
Detroit, but the Pistons worst fear in the playoffs may be Milwaukee. I
think they match up fine with Nj and Indy.

Rebraca- I do not know. This medication ordeal is a real issue with him
now. No one knows.

Matt -

Thanks for taking the time. Just a few questions:

1) Robinson and Barry will be FA's at the end of the season. Does Detroit try to re-sign them or do they just let them walk?

2) What FA's do the Pistons intend to make a run for during the summer?

3) What are the Pistons' intentions with the high draft pick from the Grizzlies? A big man? A point guard? Or just the best player available?

Pistons would love to keep Cliff Robinson and John Hammond even said that on
the air with me tonight. Jon Barry, I'm not so sure. They love JB's
energy, but maybe Prince is the backup 2 next year or they can get someone
else younger and cheaper in rd 2 of the draft and use that money for a big
big big free agent.

Tim Duncan is everyone's free agent goal. Pistons included.
Detroit will take the best available player, but would love a big man

. They
were scouting UCONN/SYR the other day, I know that. But so were all the nba
teams.

Thanks for the time Matt.

A few questions I have:

1.Noone seems to really be paying attention to Richard Hamilton's impending free agency. Do you think "Rip" will demand the more money than the Pistons brass think he deserves, or take on a smaller contract for the benefit of the team?

2. Do you think the Chucky Atkins situation will get worse than it is now ( a little down about playing time)? Or do you think veterans such as Michael Curry will continue to not let this be a distraction for this team?

3. We all know the Pistons will be a player in the free agent market, but do you see them making any moves via trades before the start of next season?

Thanks for listening Matt.

I know Rip is very happy here. I do not think he will get the max dollars,
but other players will not either (like Stack, Jermaine O neal, etc). Kidd
and Duncan will. Rip will stay.

Chucky is gonna be fine. After he snipped at Rick C last year, he learned
his lesson and has become one of the best team players around. He's
shooting it well against Milwaukee on Friday night.

One trade that could make s with memphis. If the grizz are dying for that
pick, who knows maybe they dangle Gasol or Gooden? If the cavs are really
shopping Ilgauskus like rumors indicate, Joe D will listen. But do not buy
into the Spree or Shareef stuff.

Thanks for answering questions "Diesel".

Question number 1 on my mind is, how hard is it working with Wojo?

All joking aside I do have some questions about the Pistons.

1. I'm sick and tired of Michael Curry. Do you think it would be a safe bet to say that he won't be in a Pistons uniform next year? I mean he had a nice little run, but in my opinion, even his defense is overrated and that's all that he seems to bring to the table talent wise. I think he's be a nice guy to keep around as some sort of coach.

2. Is Tayshaun Prince a guy that can develop into a starter at the NBA level? I think the last few games he has really come into his own showing what he can bring to the table. He's playing much more confident and I think he can be atleast a good player in this league.

3. I asked this hypothetical question to other people on the board. San Antonio has offered Tim Duncan in a trade for Ben Wallace and the Memphis pick. I got a variety of different opinions from this question. What do you think? All salary cap implications aside is this a deal that you would go for?

Those are the questions I have for you. Great work on the Fan and thanks for taking the time to answer.

Mike Curry is very valuable. In this day and age of selfish crap in the
NBA, he's a model guy and head's the players association-- so the guys
respect him. He will not be a starter forever, though, I guarentee that.

Prince can play, no doubt.. and will.

I would deal Ben and the pick for Duncan in a heartbeat. Tim Duncan is the
mvp again. look at the meat market that surrounds him in SA. Please...

I love this Memphis pick!!!

It is just like an I.O.U from the Grizzlies, and if they do dangle Gasol in front of our faces then we take him.

PG. Billups
SG. Hamilton
SF. Gasol
PF. Wallace
C. Robinson

Holy Moly, that is a good stinken team.
