After a few practices under new coach Flip Saunders, Arroyo believes he's ready to settle in as Billups' backup. Saunders' system, which is more reliant on pick-and-rolls and the point guards controlling the action, better suits Arroyo's strengths.
"Carlos is extremely aggressive with the ball, and I like my point guards to be aggressive," Saunders said. "It's just a matter of him pushing it and making those good decisions, which he'll do. He's also tough and hard-nosed, and that's something you always look for in your guys."
Being more relaxed, Arroyo could also be more of an offensive threat. As Utah's starter two seasons ago, he averaged 12.6 points on 44.1 percent shooting. His jumper betrayed him last season, as he shot 38.9 percent from the fi eld.

Big news on him becoming a father but even bigger news knowing that Arroyo's impact could be significantly greater this year. Remember when Carlos Arroyo was a nobody on the Raptors? I do. And then again on Denver? I do. But then he went to Utah, had a decent season, then became a legit starter? And star in the Olympics? Then we traded for him and seemingly forgot everything he accomplished?
Now with a new coach we can at least go back to hoping that not only will Arroyo be a decent back up, but a challenge to Billups' starting spot. I'm not saying Arroyo will be a starter, nor am I endorsing it, but there was a time where what I just said would not get you checked into a mental institution, and it wasn't very long ago.
