Two right knee surgeries, two rehabilitations and more than a few setbacks have made Delfino stronger, physically and mentally. But it took the rehab task of pedaling hundreds of miles on his bike this summer to help him sort the lessons out. It was just Delfino, on his bike, alone with his thoughts.

"When you hurt your knee bad, you don't know what will happen. Will I come back as good? Will I be able to run and move? I didn't know that for a lot of last season or going into the summer. But now I know. I am good. I am excited.

"He's looks great to me, he's working really hard in practice and that's great," Pistons coach Flip Saunders said. "I like how he talks out there. "Sometimes you get the guys from other countries and they don't want to say too much (Delfino is from Angentina). He's talking a lot, calling cutters and such, and that's exactly what we need."

He played in the summer league for the Pistons. It felt good to get back out on the floor and run, something he had not done in months, but he suffered a mild separated shoulder in one game.

"I know Carlos was concerned at the time about his shoulder, but the way I see it, it was a blessing in disguise," Kander said. "We had to find something else to give him the ability to stay conditioned and build knee strength, but not be pounding on that knee. Carlos loves to bike, and that was the perfect fit for him. It couldn't have worked out better."

After the summer league Delfino went to Argentina and biked 15-20 miles once or twice a day. His knee grew stronger, vanquishing the lingering doubts in his head.

At least it's all on the postive side of things.
