Last Roster Spot

Ronald Dupree is making it very hard for the Pistons to even consider waiving him. He is on the bubble, of course, even though he has one year left on his contract, because the Pistons are high on rookies Amir Johnson and Acker. One of those three, you figure, will have to go to get the roster to 15.

Johnson, as you would expect from an 18-year-old, appears a little overwhelmed. He has unlimited athletic ability, but very little idea how to play the game right now. There might be a ticket to Fayetteville in his future.
|
I agree to the thinking that one of the 3 will be sent packing. I see Acker as someone who can help us as a guard this year and Amir Johnson as a project we need to send to the NBDL. In my eyes that makes Dupree the odd man out. He was hurt when we signed Mo Evans because they are the same type of player except for Mo is just a bit better all around.

Re: Last Roster Spot
My vote went to Dupree. Both the other guys are developing, Johnson will probably be an NBDL guy. Delfino was said to be ahead of Dupree in the lineup leaving not much to do for Dupree.

Everywhere I have read would put those 3 guys at the bottom so far which would mean Delfino is above them all.

Re: Last Roster Spot
I like what I'm reading about Darko (again)
Quote:
Q: Who is looking good in camp thus far?
A: I know everybody is hungry for player evaluations, but we have to be careful not to make snap judgments, especially during two-a-day camp sessions.
Players often look great one day and not so much the next. Plus, seeing Darko Milicic running roughshod on Andreas Glyniadakis is different from seeing him break down Kevin Garnett. Are you with me on that?
That said, though, here are some initial impressions.
Milicic has been impressive. Flip Saunders is putting him in comfortable positions and he is playing with confidence. I have always said he has real NBA skill, he just never knew how to apply it. It appears now that he does.

Re: Last Roster Spot
It's a tough situation. I love Dupree's game and his energy. Amir sounds like he has too much talent to let go of. He has the potential to be a starter in this league if everything works for him. Acker sounds quite solid, though from what I've heard Dupree is a bit better player. However, the Pistons seem concerned about their depth at PG, so unfortunately, Dupree is probably the odd man out, which is a pity. He's a hard worker, a professional and a blast to watch when he gets out on the break.
Darko is going to make it very tough for Flip this year. By the all star break, I think we will have 4 starting caliber front court players. Ideally, I'd like to see Darko get about 20 min a game, McDyess 15 and the Wallace brothers 30 a piece (similar to what Duncan got last season).

Re: Last Roster Spot
Dupree looks to be the early leader in this poll. Does anyone think he has any trade value at this point? Or does the fact it looks like he might be getting waived kill that?

Everyone needs to take a blind leap of faith every once and awhile. Darko will lead the way and hopefully it's to victories and not a strip club in New York. I know how he thinks.

You always know the right words for Darko. We know where he has led himself the past two years though lol.

Couldn't have put it better myself. It really is a shame considering how great he played near the end of last season, and how great he handled his playoff roster "snubbing".

Dupree was on the playoff roster. Delfino wasn't.
