The annual Kevin Garnett sweepstakes
Quote:
In New York, where it's still held as gospel that everyone wants to be a Knick, despite the evidence of the last 10 years, it was not only a given that Minnesota would trade Garnett but that Gotham was a likely destination.
"If they want a new start, they're going to have to trade him," said an unusually emotive Stephon Marbury. "If you don't start over, you can't rebuild and they've got to rebuild. If they're going to do it, this is the time to do it."
Of course, this ignored all the prior reports that Isiah Thomas had been shopping Marbury, et al., under the very same logic, without locating any interest, which suggested once again that the Knicks had little that anyone wanted.
An ESPN Insider said that despite the Pistons' heated denials, they'd offered Rasheed Wallace and Darko Milicic, and that the Knicks had offered the expiring contracts of Antonio Davis and Penny Hardaway, but that Garnett wanted to be a Knick and even made "back-channel" overtures.
"I would bet money," the Insider source said, "he will be wearing a Knicks' uniform by the end of February."
Not a lot of money, if he's smart. Minnesota owner Glen Taylor announced he had no intention of trading Garnett by the end of February, or ever. Garnett insisted he wanted to stay — "I'm Minnesota. The Target Center, that's the Garnett Center!"

there has been a report of Minnesota wanting Prince and Rasheed+ a no1.pick for KG. not darko, they want Prince. if Dumars is willing to do that, would that make detriot a better team?

Sith from the NBA General Board
As can be expected there is word of Garnett leaving the Timberwolves, and as usual we are one of the potential candidates for where he will land.
Nothing credible to cite from, only rumours, but what do you think?

Who would you give up for Garnett?
The rumours that I have heard involve either Prince and Rasheed, or Darko and Rasheed. Of course picks may be thrown in aswell, look at the poll and choose what is the MOST you would give up for KG. I like the sounds of Garnett in a Pistons jersey but I don't know if I want to give up Prince AND Wallace, although it would be better for us in the long run.

I'd rather give up Darko. He's a lost cause.

Well obviously, but in an attempt to make the poll matter I posed the question what is the MOST you would give up...would you give up Tayshaun and Rasheed? Would you give up Tayshaun, Rasheed and a pick?

Re: The annual Kevin Garnett sweepstakes
I was just about to make my decision and choose the Prince, Wallace and a pick selection under the condition that our team was no longer getting by on the team oriented, five pronged attack strategy...but then I remembered that we were 13-2. Still haven't decided.
I would give up Prince and Wallace and a pick...but then who starts? Evans?

Prince and Rasheed is too much to give up. I wouldn't mind giving up Sheed/Darko/draft pick...

Re: The annual Kevin Garnett sweepstakes
If we look at it like this...
Garnett is the Tayshaun Prince but perfect, and Rasheed Wallace isn't getting any better any time soon I can almost justify the trade...
...but then I think of how Darko is struggling and I'm not sure whether or not I want to sacrifice the depth we have.

lets be real, Dumars isn't gonna break this team mid-season. You just have to keep your fingures cross and Minny keeps winning....but not so much that it gives them hope for the future

I know plenty of old timers and HOFer's that claimed defense in the late 90's and early 2000's weren't as good as the 80's. Wilt once said he'd average 70 ppg in the modern-day NBA because defenses were so much worse. Pippen once said KG was a stats guy who disappears down the stretch of games. Bill Walton once said Rasho was a better interior defender than Tim Duncan because Tim Duncan was on the bench at the time. Barkley once said Argentina was located north of the Indian ocean.

Love the Marc Jackson-Jeff Van Gundy combo...
"I've played with guys like Rodmonavic; good enough to keep both teams in the game."~ Jackson during gm 5 commenting as Rodmonavic scores at one end and gives up another layup.
