Power Rankings: Dec. 12th Edition [UPDATED]

No suprises here.

1. (1) Pistons 15-2

Pistons might reside in the league's toughest division, but even in the Central, can you say anyone is close right now?

2. (4) Mavericks 15-5

Mavs just keep picking up injuries and racking up victories. They've also already beaten just about every team in the league playing well these days.

3. (2) Spurs 16-4

Remember a week or so ago when Pop said it's too early in a such long season ''to go after these guys'' like he wants to? Just a hunch, but it'll be harder to hold back after that loss in Atlanta.

4. (6) Clippers 14-6

Beating a hot team like Suns, without Maggette, moves Clips ''up another notch'' in Dunleavy's estimation. If you disagree, you're in a dwindling minority.

5. (3) Grizzlies 13-7

After their two previous two-game losing streaks, Grizz reeled off win streaks of four and six games, respectively. This time ... let's see.

good job. you deserve it. pacers and heat are obviously not doing very well atm, but the season is still young :P and while you've been playing awesome ball we've been inconsistant, but we're only 3½ games behind, so all it takes is a small losing streak and we're level again hehe

That to me is the amazing thing. I think about the turmoil that the Heat and Pacers have gone through yet we only have a 3 game lead on you guys.

Re: Power Rankings: Dec. 12th Edition

I'm sorry, maybe I'm old fashioned, but the Clippers and Grizzlies never belong on a power ranking list...ever. Especially together.

It's nice to see us get undisputed respect for once, usually we are ranked lower than our record would suggest, just because we're a fluke team that only wins because we get lucky and the other teams don't score.

A breath of fresh air.

Week 8 22-3 1. You can look it up: Only one team in NBA history has ever crafted a better 25-game start than Detroit. You guessed it: Bulls, at 23-2, in their 72-win season.

Re: Power Rankings: Dec. 12th Edition

From the same page...

Quote:
I don't think they'll get there. Given how much they rely on their five starters, I don't even think the Detroit Pistons should go for it.

However ...

Any talk of 70 wins, generated only by the San Antonio Spurs coming into the season, can only be attached to the Pistons now.

Detroit reinforced itself as a clear-cut No. 1 in ESPN.com's NBA Power Rankings by extending its stay at the top to seven consecutive weeks with an 85-70 trouncing of the No. 3 Spurs on Christmas Day. The performance also established a maximum 29-spot gap between the Pistons and former coach Larry Brown's New York Knicks and prompted ABC studio analyst Scottie Pippen, a member of the Chicago Bulls' 72-10 squad in 1995-96, to repeat his recent prediction that these Pistons will win at least 70 under new coach Flip Saunders.
ESPN

Also, don't look now but the Bucks are in 4th...I think it's obvious that we are doing what we're doing in by far the hardest division in the NBA. It's not even close. Four of our teams are in the top 7 and the only other team is the underachieving Bulls.
