Re: Game Thread: Game #21: Charlotte Bobcats vs Detroit Pistons

Arroyo excells when he is allowed to adlib...ala Nash. Arroyo has problems running a set offense cause he gets it into his head that he has to get a certain person the ball and wastes too much time waiting for that person to get open instead of breaking it off and using option2 or 3. He also picks up his dribble way too early and way too often.

The only time he excels is when he has numbers on the break, but what point guard DOESN'T excel in that situation?

He's had tunnell vision in the half court.

Give him the ball and let him drive. Let the defense collapse on him. He'll find the open man almost every time, he's very good at that. But that simply isn't our style of play.

Re: Game Thread: Game #21: Charlotte Bobcats vs Detroit Pistons

He's not strong enough to get into the paint consistantly and he's not a big enough scoring threat for the defense to collapse on him when he does.

It's easy to say theoretically what Arroyo 'should' be good at. The only problem is he isn't.

For everyone saying Arroyo would excel in a faster paced system, is there anything out there that supports this? It's not like the Pistons are looking to slow the game down. But whenever Chauncey leaves the game that's what seems to happen. Yeah, Arroyo is at his best when the defense is scrambling and off balance, the only problem is he doesn't have the ability to actually get the defense off balance.

But he is quick enough. There's no doubt he has great movement across the floor with the ball. He can get too fancy at times, which costs him turnovers. I'm not saying he's on Billups' level, but I think he could be a good starter for a team that let him do the drive and dish.

Re: Game Thread: Game #21: Charlotte Bobcats vs Detroit Pistons

Im saying hes more than adequate to run the second string if he just relaxes and stops forcing things. If he runs the sets and dribble penetrates and kicks ? he will suffice for whatever minutes CNote needs to rest.

Re: Game Thread: Game #21: Charlotte Bobcats vs Detroit Pistons

It seems his biggest problem right now is that he's holding the ball way too long. I don't think that that should be that major of a fix. He just needs to look to get into the sets a little quicker.

I don't think that he has been that bad. He hasn't been good, but not awful.

Arroyo is in the best possible situation for him right now, hes playing behind Billups and if he is smart? hes learning how to run a team

You wouldn't think it would be a major fix, but it is the same problem that got Jerry Sloan to give up on him, Larry brown to glue him to the bench, and now it's still a problem under Flip.

I'd like to see either Acker of Delfino get a chance to run the point with the second unit because I really think that is the teams only weakness right now.
