Pistons Mid Season Grades
According to the Detroit Free Press.
Quote:
|
Point guard Chauncey Billups: Billups is having a career season, averaging a career-high 19.8 points. He is second in the league in assist-to-turnover ratio (4.25). As always, Billups has hit big shots in late-game situations and is better than ever at the free-throw line (92%). With his confidence at an all-time high, Billups is running the team and calling about half of the plays. Mr. Big Shot earns a Grade: A, easy.

Quote:
|
Forward Darko Milicic: Milicic showed the most promise in his short career during the exhibition season, when he displayed a knack for blocking shots. But Saunders snipped Milicic from the rotation in December after his half-hearted effort in late-game minutes. Milicic needs to get a heart, and fast. Joe Dumars has said it's now up to Milicic to prove he deserves more than he's getting, and a little passion would drastically help his cause. Grade: D.

I gotta say I agree.

usually teams will move a guy like darko when things dont work out here they just want to hold on. doesnt it make sense to trade him and get some value, obviously he isnt going to stay there after his contract expires.

You would think so, I have said all along that I would give Joe D the full time he said it would take for Darko to become a contributor and this is the year. Im having visions of William Bedford all over again.

i think he needs to be given the chance there or somewhere else to prove he is the next william beford, olawakani, jonathon bender etc, i dont think throwing him out there at the end of a game is giving a guy a chance.

you and every nba fan outside of detroit. i think you give someone a chance to work, if not there somewhere else. its kind of obscured by their great run there but the whole darko situation is a black eye for everyone involved.

Yeah it does suck. I would like to see Darko have a good career. I don't care for the guy very much honestly, but I still wish him well.

Re: Pistons Mid Season Grades
Darko seems to be falling into the same abyss that ate up Kwame Brown... so much time spent being ridiculed, so much time being spent doing nothing productive... and eventually he just wants to collect his check and go home, the effort just doesn't come. It'll be a sad day when he leaves the league a complete bust, so much potential wasted.
This was the year, in my mind, for Darko. I spent two years saying to wait, to relax... that he'd get his chance... and when he did early this year he put in no effort off the bench, just glided through doing squat. The guy needs a fresh start somewhere else, I hope that he'll make more of that than Brown has in LA.
-Chris.

Re: Pistons Mid Season Grades
I keep waiting for people to drop talking obsessively about darko. Next lifetime maybe.
Anyways supposedly he has picked up his practice sessions a bit but flip wouldn't commit to him getting back in the rotation.
