The Wizards and Atkins agreed on a contract buyout Wednesday, allowing Atkins to negotiate with any team.
In 28 games with the Wizards this season, Atkins averaged 6.7 points and 2.5 assists in 19.7 minutes. He missed several games recently because of the birth of his third child and was placed on the inactive list before Monday's 129-103 victory over Philadelphia -- the Wizards' fourth straight win.
Oh wow, and here I was thinking about who we would have to give up for him. This is great, I imagine if we pick up Atkins then Arroyo will be gone before the trade deadline. What do you think?
Wow, that'd be an interesting pickup... I remember he was key to their win over us, I believe.. Something like 4 threes in a row and 5 of 6 on 6 straight possessions before fouling out that night? He was on fire, the Palace crowd gave him one hell of an ovation.

THE DETROIT TIGERS WILL MAKE THE PLAYOFFS (2008 EDITION DARK ORANGE!!!)
Carlos Arroyo is obviously a good enough player to get a decent player in return for, he proved that in Athens and when he was in Utah too, I'm sure we could get a decent player for him, maybe get another decent player for Darko Milicic and all of a sudden we have the best bench in the NBA. Which compliments our best starting line up in the NBA quite nicely.
Bench
Al Harrington from Darko trade
Antonio McDyess
Chucky Atkins
Maurice Evans
Carlos Delfino
Decent player from Arroyo trade
Who do we get rid of if we were to bring him in? Not saying that I would be opposed to it, because I'm not, but who would we cut... Anyways he'd be a good pickup provided he could be happy coming off the bench.
Well neither does Arroyo but at least Atkins can put points on the board.
I agree that he doesn't put up a ton of points, his shooting percentage is only 39.4% from the field. But look at his assist-turnover ratio. 123-32.... 3.8-1. Not too bad. Using 82games.com's assists per bad pass ratio he's actually at 10.3-1, which is very solid.
Interestingly enough he has a slightly higher hands rating on 82games.com than Chauncey, which shows he actually does take care of the ball slightly better when he has it. I think if Arroyo were given more time this stat would go down, he'd fall behind Chauncey... but if he learns to play a little better in the half court set I'd definitely rather have him than Chucky.

THE DETROIT TIGERS WILL MAKE THE PLAYOFFS (2008 EDITION DARK ORANGE!!!)
The Memphis Grizzlies, who have played without point guard Damon Stoudamire since he suffered a season-ending knee injury on Dec. 30, have expressed interest in signing former Washington Wizards guard Chucky Atkins. But Atkins has yet to decide where he wants to play.
The Wizards and Atkins agreed to a contract buyout Wednesday and Atkins cleared waivers on Friday. Several Memphis players, including guard Bobby Jackson and forward Pau Gasol, have said they would welcome the addition of Atkins, who averaged 6.7 points, 2.5 assists and 19.7 minutes for Washington.
According to a source close to Atkins, the veteran guard is closely weighing his options and could be waiting to see what moves are made by the Detroit Pistons with the idea of possibly signing there. Atkins spent four seasons with the Pistons and was popular in Detroit, as evidenced by the ovation he received when he made six three-pointers and scored 20 points in Washington's 120-114 double-overtime victory at Detroit on Nov. 25.
