With the 60th pick in the NBA draft...
Yea yea, we all know nobody ever makes an impact from the 60th pick, but I thought this could be a fun thread. Obviously we won't get any of the major players but there are a few good college players who we could take with the pick. AS of now (May 25th) NBADraft.net has us picking Gerry McNamara from Syracuse. I think this would be great for us. Not especially because we need a point guard, but moreso just because the guy is a great player, I don't care if he's short, white, skinny, whatever.
Other players who may just fall to us at the sixtieth pick, but probably not, include Allen Ray, Denham Brown, Dee Brown and Mike Gansey. Any of these players could make our roster, because you can't fake being a good NCAA player.

Re: With the 60th pick in the NBA draft...
Not real worried about about this draft. We already have a decent nucleus of young players in Acker, Johnson and Maxiell. The real focus is on 07 which is supposed to be a great draft. This is when we get Orlando's pick as long as it isn't top 5 and will have our own 1st rounder.

Knowing that, Joe will probaly use our pick to maybe acquire someone around the deadline, or doing the off-season. But I agree about the nuclues and next year's draft being important.

Re: With the 60th pick in the NBA draft...
The `07 Draft is obviously going to see a focus on bigs for us... Rasheed and Ben will both be reaching the age where we'll truly need a couple of young bigs to start pulling minutes, taking over, developing... I don't see Jason Maxiell ever developing as anything more than what Antonio McDyess is for us as a big off the bench.. so imagine we get a pair of big studs out of the loaded 07 draft, work them up slowly and by the time Ben/Sheed have to sit back and retire we've got a couple of guys ready to jump right in?
That'd be a dream.

Hmm, a big stud that we can sit back and watch develop until it is time for them to jump right in to our starting line up? Who needs that when we have Kelvin Cato (yes, Joe, I'm still mad)

Dee Brown, or Denham Brown yeah right!! Experts say he Dee Brown is showing a big impact in meeting with teams and could sneak in the 1st round. Denham brown will not go 60, cause if he'll either get drafted in the early second round, or toronto will draft him at 55 since hes a good player from TO.

Where is Rashad Anderson from UConn projected to go??
Shooting off the bench and the ability to penetrate the lane are the 2 factors that should be considered when picking IMO.

The Pistons brought in five point guards for a workout last week, in hopes of spotting someone to take with their pick -- the 60th (and last) overall -- in the June 28 NBA draft.
The group: Jose Juan Barea, a 6-footer from Northeastern known for his playmaking and ball control; Mustafa Shakur, another solid decision maker, from Arizona; Dwayne Mitchell, a 6-5 guard from Louisiana-Lafayette; Will Blalock, a 6-foot junior with good court vision from Iowa State; and Walker Russell, a Rochester High product who played at Jacksonville State.
President of basketball operations Joe Dumars said it was a good workout all around. But don't read too much into the fact the group included only point guards.
This week, small forwards and power forwards will come to Auburn Hills.
"We're bringing in guys from all positions and taking a look at the best players we think will be available at 60," Dumars said.
There's also a chance that the Pistons could try to move up, if they believe there's someone they can get earlier in the second round. According to a Web site report, the Seattle SuperSonics are accepting bids for their pick at No. 40 overall.

Not gonna lie, I'm not a big fan of that crop of point guards we worked out, but luckily we're going to be looking at more than just that. What would you guys think about moving up to the 40th spot in the draft? I figure the second round is a crap shoot and we have just as good of a shot to land a decent player at 60 as we do at 40. Depends what Seattle wants I guess. I wouldn't give up much.

The Pistons hold only the final pick in the June 28 draft -- that would be No. 60 overall -- but don't think they aren't picking up frequent flier miles trying to find a gem.
Pistons vice president John Hammond and the entire scouting staff spent much of last week in Orlando, checking out the predraft camp at Disney's Wide World of Sports.
The camp was filled with plenty of second-rounders hoping to play their way into the first round -- or onto the draft board, period.
"Our pick," Hammond said, "was realistically playing right in front of us."
But having the 60th pick is in some ways more work than having, say, the fifth overall.
"If you have the fifth pick, you can narrow it down to one of three or four guys," Hammond said. "We have like 25 guys, maybe more, and plus what happens is guys slip, freefalls occur."
That's what happened last draft, when high school forward Amir Johnson was available at No. 56. The Pistons happily snatched him and predict he could be a steal of that draft down the road.
They also are keen on guard Alex Acker, taken 60th last year.
Late picks are more valuable than they used to be, because teams can assign them to the NBDL for further development, while holding onto their rights. A late pick also could be used for a foreign player, who could stay overseas to develop with a high-level league and with his national team.
"We took two players last year -- a 56 and a 60 -- that we think are both keepers," Hammond said. "But that doesn't always happen."

Re: With the 60th pick in the NBA draft...
Will Blalock would be nice but I highly doubt he'll be around at 60.
I don't think Allan Ray will fall either, but he'd be big help off the bench.
Alexander Johnson, Taj Gray, and Eric Hicks should all go in the 50+ range, interesting, but I don't see how they would really coexist with Max.
Unless someone really falls, I don't see a lot help out there. I bet we take an international player.

Re: With the 60th pick in the NBA draft...
So I guess everything we've heard about Acker is a farce. If he's a possible steal, why are we looking at younger PG's with the 60th pick. Anyways put me on the international list. I read somewhere that they were trying to make a promise to some 7' kid from over there and in exchange he would not work out for other teams.

Re: With the 60th pick in the NBA draft...
I think Kosta Perovic is hugely underrated. I haven't seen him on one Mock Draft Yet.
McNamarrera will be a player too.
Louis Amundson if he falls
Lior Eliahu
Yotam Halperin could fall, unlikely though
Denham Brown
Steven Smith
Chris Quinn?
Nik Caner-Medley
