Re: Dupree is back?!
I thought Joe Dumars said he was gonna try to make the bench better?

Re: Dupree is back?!
He did not look good in Minnesota...
Maybe this means a Delfino trade is coming.
Delfino+Davis along with the trade exception we got for Mo Evans gives us a little over 6 million to offer Al Harrington in a S&T. Might have to throw in one of the 1st round picks next year to convince Atlanta.

Re: Dupree is back?!
I thought you couldn't package TE's with players?
Would Atlanta do that?
i think they can get better.
Hell, they can probably get Magloire.

Last time Dupree played for us...
Detroit Pistons' Ronald Dupree (12) dunks in the first half of an NBA basketball game against the Milwaukee Bucks in this April 15, 2005 file photo, in Auburn Hills, Mich.. Dupree agreed to a two-year contract with the Pistons on Monday, July 17, 2006 adding depth to one of his former teams. The small forward averaged 2.2 points and 7.4 minutes for the Minnesota Timberwolves last year. (AP Photo/Duane Burleson)

Re: Dupree is back?!
The first thing that needs to be found out is what kind of contract it is, then maybe it can be critiqued. But I thought we didn't have cap room, so it has to be for some type of minimum right?

Re: Dupree is back?!
If there is no trade coming, I want to see Dupree be given a chance to fight for minutes between Delfino, Flip, Maxiell, and Amir. No reason not to him compete.
He got minutes right away in 2004-2005 when we tried out Delfino and he got injured quick. Dupree did everything expected of him in short amount of time and went back to the IR soley to try out Delfino, not because of any short comings. Dumars decided Dupree was going to make our playoff roster over Delfino. So Dupree and LB are informed at the end of the season against Milwaukee, with no need to play the main guys anymore, LB puts Dupree in for ~12 minutes and he scores a extremely efficient 20 points, along with a couple of blocks and rebounds.
Brown never played him again. Clearly, it was through no fault of Dupree. So Dupree comes into pre-season looking fantastic. There is a newspaper article before one game wondering if Dupree is the odd man out, and after an impressive game, Laimbeer said "that is the last time we see his name in the paper about trades" (I guess he was wrong but that isn't the point). His defense was really impressive. I particularly remember him frustrating Josh Howard and then blocking him as Josh tried to redeem himself. His defense seems very good. I don't remember him ever getting abused the way Mo Evans always was, and Delfino sometimes was (though more through the refs than his actual defense it seemed sometimes).
In the pre-season it looked like he had added a decent jumpshot and three point spot up. That was kind of overshadowed by Mo Evans leading the league in 3pt% at the time, though. He still maintained his energy offense--fast break, offensive rebounds, extreme hustle. There was even a glimmer of him getting by his man, but that never came of anything because he would always get doubled and then pass to one of his few options which just resulted in resetting the offense instead of opprotunities. Perhaps because he wasn't surrounded by any other offensive threats. That isn't his job anyway, but perhaps another minor contribution off the bench for him.
Clearly Minnesota was a disaster. I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt that he was just overlooked, given inconsistent minutes, and uninvolved. We should be well familiar with that problem on this team. I only saw him a couple of times in Minnesota. Once, when we blew them out, he actually had a really good showing for ten minutes. It is obvious he had a different attitude. At Detroit he was always first off the bench to give everyone a hand. In Minnesota he was the invisible man.
I kind of balked at the signing at first. After one season of getting pissed off about Delfino not playing, and being real eager to see Maxiell, it didn't really mesh. But now that I remember what he showed I am totally thrilled he's back and want to see him compete for a roster spot, and I'm glad he's back in the locker room as well.

Re: Dupree is back?!
Dupree lost his minutes in Minnesota to Justin Reed, that should tell you about where he is. I lived in MN for the second half of the season so I saw more Wolves than is probably healthy for you.
He can be fun to watch, and he is fun to root for, but if he's ever on the court in a meaningfull situation I will cringe.

Re: Dupree is back?!
I'm still going to give him the benefit of the doubt for now. In Minnesota he seemed to be in a worse situation than Darko over here... who you could say lost minutes to Elden Campbell, Dale Davis, etc. His teammates seemed to treat him like the invisible man/ball boy. They seem like a pretty crappy organization and when the back ups are in it is stat padding time. I didn't watch much I admit, but why would he become dramatically worse than he was in his rookie and sophomore season.
Found some clips that had him in it (barely).

I've looked at a lot of Pistons video today and now I've got a full case of Ben Wallace withdrawal and at the moment am willing to trade the whole team to get him back

Re: Dupree is back?!
Why him?! I thought the pistons could attract better role players that average more then 2.2 ppg.

What do you mean why him, they'll sell tickets, forgot how much he averages, this guy is coming off a hit film, now their's room for a sequal, You, Me, Detroit, and Dupree.

Dupree looks up to the ref for the call as he takes a hard fall onto the ground. (Foto File)
