How will the Pistons stack up?

Here are some local media predictions. Most have the pistons losing in the ECF...

Quote:
Chris McCosky: Reports of the Pistons' post-'Fro demise have been greatly exaggerated. This is still the best team in the East, top to bottom. They have the talent, depth and experience to win another title. What remains to be seen is whether they really have the desire. I thought they lost their underdog edge last season, and maybe got too big for their britches. If they are willing to get dirty again, to scrap and fight like they did in 2004, then we can have another party come June.
Quote:
Joanne Gerstner: Man, I wish my crystal ball wasn't in the shop. The Pistons still have one of the strongest and most experienced rosters in the NBA. I see them back in the Eastern Conference finals, again dealing with the Heat's Shaq and DWade-driven show. And I see the Pistons' season again ending there.
Quote:
Rob Parker: The Pistons will not be as good as they were last season, but then again, they don't need to be. Chauncey and Rip have a lot to prove. Look for another trip to the Eastern Conference finals.
Quote:
Bob Wojnowski: Somehow, some way, someone has to take a leap up the star ladder for the Pistons to contend for the title. Chauncey Billups did it last season, then faded in the playoffs. More than ever, the ball is in Billups' hands. The Pistons will miss Ben Wallace's playoff energy, but even that was wavering. Rasheed Wallace must embrace a larger role. The Pistons will finish 55-27 and lose in the Eastern Conference finals to the Heat.
Quote:
Mike Stone, WDFN: The Pistons will finish 51-31 and again be a fun team to watch. They should be among the best in the East, but unfortunately will finish the season the same way they did last season, losing in the Eastern Conference finals.

Re: How will the Pistons stack up?

I wonder if Flip Saunders can set a new Pistons record for most wins in 1st two seasons by a new head coach. Remember that Rick Carlisle broke the record, and then Larry Brown broke that record... three consecutive coaches breaking a record like that for a franchise with as much history as Detroit is amazing.

I'm calling a 54-28 season and a run deep into the playoffs. Additionally I'm going to predict that Sheed feuds with Flip all season and it is actually PRINCE that steps up in the offensive scheme and again sets a new career high in PPG. Rip and Billups will remain on the same level as last year, although Rip will continue to become more dangerous beyond the three point line.

is it too early to also predict a playoff meeting with Darko Milicic?

Re: How will the Pistons stack up?

McCosky is the only one who didn't annoy me. He's always seemed like the most knowledgable about the pistons out of local writers too. No idea who Joanne Gerstner is and why her opinion matters, I certainly can't see any substance in her crystal ball comments. Mike Stone and Bob Wojnowski's opinions I value a whole lot less than anyone on this forum. They're just regular fans who I don't think care about basketball that much. I've never heard them make an insightful comment about basketball ever.

I think the only local writers I care to read besides McCosky are that Kristin Jahnke or however it is spelled. It is easy to tell those two actually have an interest in basketball and they can actually write a meaningful article about the Pistons. Got to love Mike Rosenberg for answering questions from this forum a while ago. His articles seem knowledgable about the Pistons but I don't think he focuses on them much.

That would be fun and interesting to see...

I honestly haven't seen too many of the pre-season games, but I have to say we'll at least make the 2nd round and beyond that i wouldn't be too suprised at all. I'll take our best five against any other five in the league and feel confident that we can get it done. It's just the in between that not necessarily worries, but leaves me unable to fully answer the question.

Re: How will the Pistons stack up?

Since I am the ultimate homer, a little drunk and I like to gamble I threw down 100 on the pistons to win it all this year. 10-1 odds so I am looking at a G if the pistons come through. Lets go pistons.

With my winnings I am buying bottles of patron for my favorite posters. Chris, Lope and DetBNyce should all expect to get a bottle after the pistons win their 4th championship. Probably others too.
