Re: Game Thread: Pistons vs Hornets: Nov. 15/06

If they are going to let Chris Paul travel on the last play they shouldn't call a foul to decide the game.

Re: Game Thread: Pistons vs Hornets: Nov. 15/06

I'm pretty upset because we could've had this one. Our effort first half was just bad, we were shooting 55% or something and we were still down 11. We started the second half well and started the fourth well but they climbed back and took it. The main story here is rebounds, they killed us, and this is without Tyson Chandler. They didn't even shoot that well, they just got so many more shot opportunities because they hit the offensive boards and we didn't (we could've had the last possession, but the guy who was shooting fouls shots got his own offensive rebound, I think). We did make whoever Hilton Armstrong is look really impressive, though.

Our bench was terrible tonight, 11 points, six of them were McDyess's (he was fine for the most part, although he rebounded poorly). Hunter, Murray, and the rest basically didn't do anything.

3-5 now, next up is Washington. Hopefully we won't get embarassed on national television again.

Re: Game Thread: Pistons vs Hornets: Nov. 15/06

I wonder if it was a good idea to play Lindsey with his ankle, but whatever.

We were robbed by the officials. This should of been our ball with 10 seconds left with us winning or going to overtime.

I think so too, those fouls at the end were... questionable, to say the least. Gah.

On top of letting Paul travel for the game winning set up.

I admit we got robbed of this win, but we should have never let it happen. Another 100 points from the opposition against us. Our defense is dead and that's what killed us.

Maybe Flip should get fired now

Joe D should take over

The zone has worked every once in a while, but I don't like it overall. There are far too many lapses related to it

Re: Game Thread: Pistons vs Hornets: Nov. 15/06

This team is falling and fading quickly. They have no identity anymore. With Carlisle it was slow down grind it out....with LB it was the right way....with Flip its ????losses, and lost ball....this team looks honest to goodness lost most of the time on the court. This should not be the case....we only lost 1 guy. The backcourts defensive deficiencys are really being exploited without Ben back there to clean up. and the rebounding is horrible. Joe D needs to make a move soon. Either move 1 guy? to try to shake it up? or move a few and start rebuilding. These guys arent playin well and there is no sign of it getting better.

Instead of firing Flip, Joe D should consider getting a good center. Nazr Mohammad is decent and all, but he's not Pistons material. Pistons were looking to also improve their offense by adding Mohammad, but I believe it hurt their defense more than it improved their offense. Pistons need to bring in a big man that can get at least 10 rebounds and a couple of blocks a game, and not worry about what his offensive game is like.

There is nobody available that fits that label

Maybe they should play Dale Davis more. He is a better defender and rebounder at least

Re: Game Thread: Pistons vs Hornets: Nov. 15/06

I think you guys are overreacting. We've had 8 games and we were awful in 3 of them and so-so in 2, good in 1, and pretty good in 2. Our record could easily be 5-3 if we had won our one basket losses to Utah and NO.

Last season we were 8-0, but after our ECF loss I thought everyone wanted for us to work out our problems in the regular season and develop into a better team instead of putting everything into the best record with a 6 man rotation. We're trading a few wins for trying to develop into a better team. If we wanted to we could become pretty similar to where we were last year. The one game where it looked that way, against LA, was where we played the starters a lot and only really played McDyess and Hunter off the bench...exactly our way from last year, minus Ben...

The only thing that I am worried about is the struggles of our returning rotation players. Some of them are still stuck in preseason mode. Rasheed is out of shape. Prince, McDyess, and Billups are all trying to sort out new roles. Nazr is expected to take some time to get integrated, and he has been good, except for his interior D. The problems have been totally fundamental. So far there have been some pretty horrible games of basketball. The bright side is these mistakes are so amazingly bad you know it can't be a lasting problem. These guys have been good a long time and done well for us for many years. IMO all of our returning rotation players deserve the benefit of the doubt, and we should be very patient. The worst case scenario is we do bad this season and end up with a good pick in a very good draft... Maybe we combine our picks and maybe some other trade and end up with Oden Not that I think it will happen.

I agree with playing Davis. It's about time he was given a shot. Now is a good time if McDyess needs to take some time off with his ankle.

If we fire Flip, do you guys think Terry Porter is better? It's cool we have such an all star coaching staff with Porter and Cowens on it. It gives me some hope that some of these huge errors will be fixed. I'm sure Dumars won't fire Flip based on his comments over this summer. I think he is tired of firing so many coaches or something. If he keeps firing them it will make it harder to hire a good coach maybe.

Re: Game Thread: Pistons vs Hornets: Nov. 15/06

Very, very poor coaching at the end of the game.

We go small to finish, with Chauncey, Rip, Tayshaun, Sheed, and then Flip/Lindsey. I don't like it, but whatever.

The real question is, with 4 seconds left in the game and Hilton Armstrong on the free throw line, no matter what happens you are calling a timeout after the freethrows right? So why in the blue hell do you not sub some rebounders in to make sure you actually rebound a missed free throw !?!?!?!?!

What was the point of having Sheed and Tayshaun on the lowest spots, and Chauncey on the next one? If Tayshaun takes Chauncey's spot, and Dale Davis or Nazi takes Tayshaun's spot, that last free throw doesn't get tipped out. Then you call timeout and get your offensive group in the game.

That's just unbelievably lazy coaching.

It was pretty bad coaching but I'm still with keeping Flip in the side. Firing him would be a huge mistake, last night what he did was a mistake. But I don't think we should got on his back from one mistake. Bench McDyess, give Maxiell more mins, see how he does, along with Dale Davis, who should get more mins. If Davis proves to play better D in the mins he gets, then there should be a consideration of him starting center.
