Re: The 2007 Draft should be on the back of our minds by now
On a serious note, I am very excited about this draft. When is Billups contract decision going to be made? Before or after the draft?

Free agency starts after the draft on July 1st. While Billups might push it past that date, the Pistons should have a good idea long before then on what is going on. He can resign at any point in time with us though.

Re: The 2007 Draft should be on the back of our minds by now
We can't pass up Corey Brewer if Orlando's pick can obtain him. I only see one team NEEDING a guy like him, and that's Seattle. Alot of the teams may go for the best available talent though, and that would be Brewer. Acie Law or Aaron Afflalo would be very solid choices with our pick. If Noah keeps falling like people are expecting, do we pick him up? I like what he could do for our team, but we have too deep of a front. Maxieel & Amir are still waiting in line.

Re: The 2007 Draft should be on the back of our minds by now
Noah isn't a guy I think we need because Mad Max is already an energy type player.
If we are talking bigs what about Al Thorton? He seems to be the pick for the Pistons at Orlando's spot in almost every mock I am seeing. If we draft him though, we almost need a guy like Webber or Dice to leave just to open up minutes for the huge depth we would have.
Also Afflalo is listed as a very early 2nd round pick in a lot of these so he could be a guy we see the Pistons hit with out first rounder.
Names for Piston fans to watch Glen Davis, Sean Williams, Jeff Green, Carl Landry, Will Chandler, Nick Fazekas, Alando Tucker and Dominic James. No rhyme or reason to that order but those are all types of guys I could see Joe D taking at some point of the draft.

I think Thornton is a damn good pick in terms of talent, but I don't feel right drafting him. His position is already filled by Tay. I don't know everything about Al, but don't they share a very similiar game?

Right now Al Thornton is the second best small forward in the draft. I think he would be a very solid pick. He's almost 24 years old so he's already grown and could contribute right away. He can flat out score, which is something we don't really have coming off the bench at the wing.

There's almost no way we can get Brewer, since his stock rose tremendously after the tournament. I wouldn't mind getting Conley (who might also be taken early by a team that needs a PG), Acie Law, or Thornton, but Brewer seems out of reach.

I don't think Acie or Mike make it to us. Atlanta is hot on them. I've been reading/watching Thornton for a majority of today, and I'm sold he'd be the one for us.

Thorton is a very Joe D pick. Four year guy from college who has shown he can play. No we don't have a huge need for him but really what huge need do we have? We have to draft someone and if we can't get a PG we have to take best value.

Re: The 2007 Draft should be on the back of our minds by now
I think Mike Conley is going to be a fantastic player so if he is available I think we would have to take him, expecially with Chauncey's free agency. That being said, he is the best point guard in the draft so as long as Atlanta is picking ahead of us there is no chance he'll be available.
I'm not completely in love with Acie Law. He is a good player, but I think his reputation has been bolstered by clutch shooting. While that's nice, it's hard to tell how much of that is just luck. If given the choice, I'd rather have Darren Collison.

Re: The 2007 Draft should be on the back of our minds by now
Hey, you never know with Atlanta management.
Orlando's in the playoffs now, so the chances of us snagging Conley is really low. As for Law, the clutchness may be a little overplayed and he may have been lucky, but the fact that he's willing to take the big shots shows that he has a spine, which can't hurt unless it just makes him go overboard with his shot selection. One problem is probably that his ceiling doesn't seem that high, but I think he'd work really well as a backup for Billups.

If we draft Thornton. I see us letting Ronald Murray go, moving Delfino back to the 2, and picking up a back-up PG.

If we draft Thorton, I think that all about locks us up to draft a legit 7 footer with our 1st round pick. Who knows what we do with our 2nd rounder then.
We got the list of possible back-up PGs ready?

I'm hoping for Brevin Knight or Charlie Bell. Steve Blake is also free, and I don't think Denver will be paying him a fair amount.
