The 2007 Draft should be on the back of our minds by now
As it stands, we should have around a #15, and a #25. With the way the Magic have bene sliding that first pick could get even better than that. NBADraft.Net has us taking Josh McRoberts from Duke at 15, and Tyler Hansbrough of UNC at 26. I can't say I'd object to that, if only because they are big name players from big name schools.
I'll be following the Magic even closer now to see where abouts they end up.
Are there any players in particular you would like to see in a Pistons jersey next year?

The last thing the Pistons need to do is draft two PFs would both be on the roster next season. I like both players but we don't need both.
15 Acie Law
25 Nick Fazekas or Kyle Visser
Sean Williams would be a darkhorse of mine for the 25th pick if he had a strong draft camp

Re: The 2007 Draft should be on the back of our minds by now
McRoberts is decent but doesn't floor me. Also seemed kinda slow from the games I saw, but he could be an alright player.
I don't know much about Hansborough, but a friend of mine who goes to UNC keeps complaining that his production hasn't really budged since last year. Bah, I'd like to get interested in college basketball so I can know more about draft prospects, but I find it unwatchable until March Madness. This year's been a little better because of the Oden/Durant watch, I guess.
I like Law from the few games that I saw. Weird looking shot, but he's fairly accurate this year and he's been pretty clutch. He also had a big jump in production this year. I don't usually follow college basketball much, so I dunno if that is meaningful. This draft seems to suck for point guards, but Law seems like he'd be a decent choice.
Our most pressing needs are a backup for Prince and maybe a young backup for Chauncey. If we're looking purely into the future, picking one of the ones that nbadraft has chosen for us might not be a terrible idea, but neither of those guys would get playing time for a while.

Law is generally labled as the top PG this year and has been seen by a few as a poorman's Billups. He, in my eyes, would be a good fit for Detroit.

Re: The 2007 Draft should be on the back of our minds by now
Any chance we might trade those two picks into a higher pick?
I don't really know much about these players. Is there going to be a prospect like Deron Williams or Chris Paul this time? Thats what I want to get.

This is a very deep draft but outside of the top 2 players, there is not a big talent differance between the guys who will go 3rd and 15th. Keeping those two picks would be the best move.
PG is the weakest postion this year in my mind. Acie Law is the best PG but he is at best middle of the road prospect right now.
Depending on what current players are on the way out, you could see the Pistons draft a Euro player to stash over in Europe with the 2nd first round pick

Re: The 2007 Draft should be on the back of our minds by now
This draft seems to be heavily talented, but a lot of the talent is in big men, not point guards. Law, Augustine, and the dude from Ohio seem to be some of the better college point guards right now, and I don't think any of them project to be stars (again, might be wrong).

Right on point. Pistons have a lot of options this summer

I totally forgot about the draft, thinking we wouldn't have a good pick. But with Magic sitting at #9 right now I think it is in the East, we have a chance of getting a good pick. I hope we can pick up another PG

So kamego, are there viable small forwards coming out at the draft positions we have right now?

Re: The 2007 Draft should be on the back of our minds by now
The draft sites right now are just ranking prospects. Team needs won't be taken into account until the draft order is set, so even though nbadraft.net has us taking Josh McRoberts and Tyler Hansbrough, there is no way that will happen.
What we really need is for Orlando to not make the playoffs because if a team makes the playoffs the best draft spot they can get is 15. There will be several teams in the west that will have a better record and won't make the playoffs so this is important.
Right now I'm holding my breath for Thaddeus Young with the high pick. Coming out of high school he was touted with the likes of Oden, Durant, and Wright as one of the superstars of this freshman class, but his hype has really cooled off. He hasn't been "stellar" and his team has underperformed so people are leaping off the bandwagon, but he's still averaging 15 and 5 as a freshman and still has all the tools of a great prospect. If Georgia Tech doesn't make the tournament and he doesn't have a chance to showcase his draft stock could take a dive. He's a big, athletic, talented small forward, exactly what we need.
Corey Brewer and Arron Afflalo are another two optiions for a backup swingman. Brewer has great athleticism and Afflalo is a decent shooter, but both will make their primary impact on the defensive end.
I think it would a mistake to draft a point guard other than Acie Law because you probalby aren't going to get anything special and there is too much value to be had elsewhere.
With the second pick, we could go for a scorer like Marcus Williams or Morris Almond, or there should still be some decent big guys (although with Amir and Max here we shouldn't take anybody undersized). Kind of hard to judge whose going to be around at this point.

Re: The 2007 Draft should be on the back of our minds by now
Yeah Thaddeus Young would be great, though realistically I wouldn't see him getting time next year.
I'd really like to see NJ and NY knock Orlando out of the playoffs, plus that would lessen Chicago's pick.

The two players that will be there (most likely) that I would want the Pistons to pick are......
Marcus Williams
Acie Law
