Question McDyess/Webber

McDyess has the ablity to opt out of his contract at the end of this season. As he has stated he would rather retire then leave the Pistons, he still could opt out in order to recieve a longer contract in return. Chris Webber is of course only signed on to finish the season. With no imformation or with me not implying anything, what should the Pistons do if both hit the market and we only have one MLE to use figuring Billups probally eats up any cap room we have.

Do we reward McDyess or attempt to resign Webber? I understand that Webber may leave to the Lakers anyways so I am not posing that question but rather if it came down to it, which one could be a more important piece to the future?

Re: McDyess/Webber

This is a hard decision; as much as I love McDyess I think Chris brings more the the team as a plyer than Dyess. But Dyess is a great guy with a great attitude and he deserves the reward, but realistically I think C-Webb is the better choice.

Re: McDyess/Webber

This is very hard for me to decide.

They are both among my most favorite players (McDyess being the my absolute favorite). Webber's play making and post ups have been completely invaluable.

Not sure how long their good play will last. McDyess has proven himself as a great playoff contributor for two seasons.

I don't know.

Btw Stein gave Webber the MVP of the East

I think thats the heart of our team up there. Definitely my favorite part... I want to keep both

edit:

Thought about it more...

For the way the team is now, Webber is more valuable. He solidified the starters and doubled our ball movement and worked in the post.

If the team were to change, or if we were talking about a different team altogether, McDyess could be more valuable. He has a lot of advantages over Webber. Far more athletic, better shooter, faster, better defender, has been one to step up his play in big games and the playoffs.

Not sure if Webber will keep it up, but I'll say him for now. This might change because McDyess is still improving. When the playoffs get going I might have a different answer.

edit2: On the other hand, since Webber has arrived, in many of the games where McDyess got minutes and touches, he has been our best big man. He's playing really well and at times looked like the vintage McDyess.

Re: McDyess/Webber

My thinking on this is comes down to backups. If Webber leaves, Mohammad is back to starting with Dice coming off the bench. If Dice leaves, Amir and Mad Max could battle to replace him as the first big off the bench.

Re: McDyess/Webber

Speaking strictly from production so far, Webber has probably been more valuable. But his shooting percentage is a big question mark. He's almost never shot this well, even in his prime. But that might be part of knowing your limitations, and he's playing smart this year.

At any rate, I think I agree with kamego here. Webber leaves us with no real options except to bring Nazr back (which some people would hate). Maxiell should continue his development next year, and he should be a serviceable third big man, and Amir can get his first tastes of real NBA action. Still tough since McDyess is the man.

Re: McDyess/Webber

It actually isn't that bad to think of Nazr returning. Word is he has been working on keeping himself ready. He's looked better after his demotion, in the few times we called on him. It's like he toughened up a bit.

But I swear before Nazr was demoted he played so soft. I think he checked for blood every time he had a little contact.

The problem is that Nazr has done this before. He has played himself out of starting roles with nearly every team he played on. He is a career backup who can produce.

Re: McDyess/Webber

Nazr's defense was a little hard to live with, especially his tendency to pick up quick fouls. I do think he could be useful off the bench, although he has gotten virtually no time lately.

Re: McDyess/Webber

I love C Webb, he's a huge part of this team now, but McDyess has served us well over the years and I haven't seen enough from C Webb as a Piston to select him over McDyess
