He won his championship, it's time to get that money. He knows full well that this is his last chance at a huge contract, so he has to go for it.

Billups isn't leaving, I know he isn't, so I'm not even going to think of an offer. If we can't keep him, I will lose all hope in Joe D and this team getting another championship

It seems plausible that the sudden rise in free agency talk surrounding Billups could be a distraction. Recent reports have predicted Billups will show interest in Memphis and Denver this summer when he becomes an unrestricted free agent.
But Billups thinks the reports are overblown, and he said the entire issue is "not really" on his mind at all.
"But I think people are blowing it out of proportion. Everybody knows I love Detroit and I want to be in and, barring anything crazy, hopefully that's how it works out," he said. "But one thing I know is you never know in this business."

Man. If the Pistons managed to turn Chauncey into AI... Unless the Heat manage to get KG. Anyone here see AI as a good fit? If worse comes to worse with Denver, they may just trade him for a better PG. I think AI on the Pistons would be a great move for them. And you never know with Denver. AI isn't a cancer. He'll defer, play team ball, and defend if it means a shot at getting a championship. It's not his fault Melo's a punk and is being selfish. Man, this would be the AS team.
PG: Allen Iverson
SG: Rip Hamilton
SF: Tayshaun Prince
PF: Rasheed Wallace
C: Chris Webber

The Pistons have turned down AI quite a few times in the past when Philly offered him and AI turned down the pistons intial in a Jerry Stackhouse deal.
The Pistons will not be trading for a max contract player who is on the decline. It goes against the money system Joe D has set in place

Bibby had a rough opening part of the season, but he is playing better now. I think Billups is better than him, but I think Bibby is definitely better than Hunter, which is all we'd basically be left with if Billups is gone.

Re: S&T Chauncey to Denver?
There is a reason why Bibby isn't opting out of his contract this year. He is paid much better then I believe he has performed lately. We could give Billups about what Bibby makes (maybe a bit more) and I don't see him turning it down.

I think Joe has always been pretty high on AI, I don't think he has ever turned down a realistic deal for him.
And he did actually trade for him in the past, but it was Matt Geiger, not Iverson, who refused to waive his no trade clause - killing the deal.
But either way, I don't see Chauncey leaving.

Since the Championship, I can count 2 differant occasions that Joe Dumars had turned down AI in the name of refusing to break up the core. But AI isn't what this thread is about. Before that I think it was obivious to the world the Pistons were in every AI rumor after the Jerry Stackhouse trade.
If we are going to pay 12 plus million for a PG next season, I just don't understand why we would want to pay that to anyone other then Billups. AI, Bibby, and Davis would not run our offense as well as him. While they may have other postives that Billups does not, in the end I want my PG to run my offense and play a bit of D.
