A great topic

Normally I would save this topic till mid august when we have nothing to talk about but since I saw it on the main board I will address it now.

Who was the better PG?

Isiah Thomas

or

John Stockton

To think that there are actually people that believe Stockton was a better player

Here is the thread

isiah by far. dude was a PIMP he did everything was physical would kick someones *** if they got in the way. Only thing stockton has on thomas is played longer and the alltime assists but i would rather have had isiah.

There is no doubt in my mind that Isiah was the better player. Stockton has the longetivity factor over Isiah, but that shouldn't come into play when comparing how good players were. Isiah was a magician with the ball and could flat out score.

Isiah was a much better scorer whould could really take over the game. Stockton is a better passer, but overall Zeke was better.

I was going to say something exactly like this. I think people forget that Isiah could pass the ball too, when comparing the two. I mean Stockton had Karl Malone, who even though I can't stand him, was one of if not the best PF of all time. Isiah had good teammates but he never had anyone that was the best at their position that he could pass to.

John Stockton leads the league all-time in assists and steals for a reason so he takes those...Isaih was a better scorer from what I have seen and in the one game tape I borrowed from my coach (25 p in 1 q) he looked speedy as hell...

Isaih has more rings and they both played with good teams so I don't know who I would pick.

Stocktons stats are inflated because he played for so many more years than Zeke did. Zeke had an injury that ended his career. I'm pretty sure if he had played a few more seasons his numbers would have been pretty high on the totem pole as well. There are two guys I put in front of Zeke: Magic and Oscar Robertson. Jerry West was a better point guard than John Stockton. Alot of people also forget Bob Cousy who was another guy that defined the point guard during the NBA's early years.

If you think of it that way then you have to give Sctockton credit for taking care of his body and having great endurance over the course of his career. I am not saying Isaih didn't I am just sayin tha John Stockton is an ironman and you have to give him credit for that. Now I am not sayign Stockton is better I am just waying the differences...

Stockton: passer, stealer, endurance
Thomas: scorer, leader?, faster

If Isiah concentrated on passing as much as Stockton did I think he would average the same if not more assist than Stockton.

I don't understand how we can use endurance do debate who was the better player during their time. If not for an unfortunate injury Isiah might have played more. Fact is, Stockton played about 7 more seasons making his numbers alot bigger. Plus, he got to play with Karl Malone. How many assists can be attributed to the great play of Malone. I'm not trying to run down Stockton at all either. He's probably a top 5 or 6 point guard, but if Isiah had the opportunity to pass the ball to the greatest power forward to play the game, who knows?

Endurance might have been the wrong word to use my bad. What I mean is that Stockton helped his team for like you said 7 more years! I would rather have a player who plays great for a longer period of time. Sure if Isaih had played as much as Stockton he could have beaten his records but he didn't and nobody can do anything to change that (unless he pulls an MJ)

What I am trying to say is that Stockton played great for a longer period of time, Thomas played great for a shorter period of time and I am looking back at Stockton as a better player because he did it for a longer period of time. Just to take into consideration

We're going to have to agree to disagree on this one then. There's no way I'm going to buy into Stockton being the better player because he played longer. It's not as if Isiah was some flash in the pan as some players were like Tim Hardaway who only maintained his top-notch play for a few years. Isiah put in 10+ great seasons. When both players played Isiah was a better player than John Stockton.
