Draft day trade idea...

How about this idea?

Trade Maxiell and the Wolve's 2nd rounder to a team with a mid 1st rounder. We end up drafting...

DeVon Hardin
Brandon Rush

Chauncey/ Stuckey
Rip/ Afflalo
Tayshaun/ Rush
McDyess/ Amir
Rasheed/ DeVon

This is if our current squad doesn't go far enough this year...

I don't pay much attention to college ball, so you'll have to explain what this does for the team.

Re: Draft day trade idea...

I'm not especially overwhelmed by the reports of either. Rush's alleged weaknesses (lots of jumpshots, is said to have troubles creating his own shot) are problems that are already present on the bench. I have seen Rush a bit, and his ballhandling is kind of weak, and it could lead to turnovers and a difficulty to create at this level. I might have caught him on bad nights, but it still seems like a weakness. Also, from a quick look at his stats, it doesn't look like he's improved much, if at all, from his freshmen or sophomore years, and that doesn't bode well.

I know Dumars was looking at Hardin, and his athleticism is intriguing, but he still seems ridiculously unskilled for a senior prospect. None of the young bigs on the team have much of an offense to speak of, but Maxiell has at least put in the work and become a solid shooter.

nbadraft has the Pistons taking him at 29. It doesn't look like the team would have to trade up to pick up either, and I don't foresee Rush as being much of an upgrade, so I'm not sure this is that helpful. It may be worthwhile to trade up if the team knows it can get real value, but it doesn't seem like either of these guys is worth giving up anything for.

Re: Draft day trade idea...

I really like Rush as a Hayes replacement. The bench needs a gunner, but getting Hayes with defense would be great.

Hardin fits well with the Detroit game, and very well for the Zoo Crew. Every part of his game fits well, but his offense is close to zero. I really wish we had someone we could throw the ball to down low. Neither Max or Amir have shown much in the aspect yet.

Re: Draft day trade idea...

I might do that deal, but not so we can get either of those two players. Not that I don't like those players, but right now they are both projected as 2nd Rounders. Hardin could possibly go late-1st at best, and Rush could go as far down as middle-2nd.

Now, if there is some insurance that Roy Hibbert will go middle 1st, then I might consider it, because I really like his game, and think he could fit perfectly with the Pistons. He's not the greatest Offensive player, but he can score in the post alittle bit, is a pretty good passer, and a really good defensive player, and shot blocker. He's one of the most NBA ready players in the Draft. But it would still be tough giving up on Maxiell, I'm not ready to give up on him yet, he has struggled in the 2nd half of the season, but he showed some good flashes in the begining of the season.

I think I would just rather hold onto Jason Maxiell. And take our chances with the late 1st, there should be some decent players left. The Jason Thompson kid from Rider is interesting.
