Re: Perennial Losers
The Sixers weren't at the top of the East when the Pistons run started.
And I'm sure Detroit fans would switch places with San Antonio any day of the week.

Hard to call a team perennial losers when only one franchise has been more successfull over the last half decade.

Re: Perennial Losers
Perennial losers certainly wouldn't be the right label, though comparing the Pistons to the Braves seems perfect if they don't pick up another ring. Fans expect a lot though. Winning one championship with a group of guys is generally not a failure, especially when considering the Pistons' non-traditional non-star centric model.

Re: Perennial Losers
They're definitely close to being considered the Atlanta Braves of the NBA, but that certainly isn't a bad thing. It's clear that they need a little work done to the roster if they want to win another championship. However, they have to hang on to Billups, Prince, Stuckey and Maxiell.
The Pistons are a great franchise. They have nothing to be ashamed of.
...Except that brawl a few years ago...

Re: Perennial Losers
Detroit as good as they were were not the best team in the league in most years. I don't see how they underachieve if teams better than them are winning championships.
At the end of the day, in the NBA the better team usually wins in a 7 game series. If the Pistons aren't better than everyone else in most years, then it's only logical that they haven't won more championships.

But all jokes aside, the Pistons have been great this decade. Nobody can go out and say that he can guarantee a championship team. The best you can do is to build a contender and the Pistons have been that for most of this decade.

Re: Perennial Losers
This is stupid. If you want to look at it that way then it'll take about another 50 straight losing years for the Celtics to be considered as a loser franchise. People look at a team from era to era. When a particular era clearly ends, you shouldn't use that as an excuse for the failure of another era.
The Pistons era under Grant Hill was a failure and they have been successful since Hill. Just like the Bulls have been a failure after MJ and we are still waiting for them to become contenders.
The purpose of this thread is to look at the Pistons current run. Anything that happened before that shouldn't be relevant.
