Stan Van Gundy?
So - I'm not one for change for the sake of change. I don't mind Lawrence Frank and as long as we don't have a better option - I am fine with him remaining on the bench. Or a foot and a half out on the floor yelling at opposing shooters as they take 3s. As thats where he usually is. But if we had the opportunity to pick up Stan Van Gundy - am I the only one that thinks he'd be a great coach?
He's a proven winner, across multiple stops. This means credibility (even if not all players love him). Which means veteran players more likely to sign on. He did a damn fine job tailoring a scheme around Dwight Howard, and Dre Drummond has a chance to be the same sort of big man. He isn't perfect... but he took Orlando to the finals with Dwight and the pupu platter. Dre Drummond, Greg Monroe, and surround them with shooters? We've already got a couple - I don't know what has happened to Knight in Jan/Feb - but if he plants himself on the perimeter as a shooter, he can do damage. Calderon can shoot. Singler can shoot. Jerebko can shoot. Give them the right scheme and open looks and they're all very capable. So... not saying this will happen, or that its even a pipe-dream - but are others in agreement that he really would be a worthy upgrade on the bench?

Re: Stan Van Gundy?
Frank has had 3 winning seasons out of 9 total years as a coach. Stan has had 8 winning seasons in only 8 seasons. There's no question it would be an upgrade. If the Pistons can manage to make one splashy offseason addition with all of their cap space, this might be a good landing spot for the fatter Van Gundy.

Re: Stan Van Gundy?
Why add the caveat "with all of their cap space"? Coaching salaries don't count against the cap. Regardless of that bit - I agree, definite upgrade. I like Frank, he's capable and still a "young" coach - even with all of his experience. He's about the same age SVG was when he got his start in Miami I believe. Remember he was a "wunderkind" in New Jersey. After 9 years he may be set in his ways, or maybe he's still got room for growth. Hence my statement that it'd have to be a DEFINITE upgrade (like SVG) for me to want to get rid of Frank. No need to get rid of him, despite that 3/9 number, unless it is a sure thing upgrade.

Re: Stan Van Gundy?
The caveat was added strictly because I don't think Van Gundy would choose to come to Detroit if not for such an acquisition.

Re: Stan Van Gundy?
Personally I'm willing to ride this out with Frank for a few more seasons. I like what he's doing so far.
