Bob Sura/Cliff Robinson
The Pistons are reportedly swapping Cliff for Bob Sura.

I was just coming to say something about this... but I'm really feeling this trade. We get our backup 2 and although Cliff was cool while he was here he was odd man out, I wish him well.

I think this trade blows. Robinson's an odd man out, but he's a team leader and all in all still a good player. Sura... isn't.

The Pistons really didn't need Cliff anymore, so they bring in a decent player who's contract expires after one year. This frees up a little time for Darko to get some minutes.

I like Cliff a lot, especially his low-post defense, but this -- or something like it -- was a trade that pretty much had to be made. More and more, it looks as though Delfino won't be reporting this year, and obviously there was a logjam at the 4-5 positions.
I was looking at the respective statistics of Cliff and Sura. Anyone else notice that Sura had a higher rebounding average last year?

I like this trade. It works well for the Pistons, I think. Cliff Robinson was part of our logjam up front, and became expendable with the signing of Elden Campbell. Because of Jon Barry being gone, and Delfino probably not coming over to the States the Pistons were looking at Hubert Davis as their backup shooting guard. Nothing against Hubert, but his best days are well behind him. I do think that Bob Sura is a downgrade in talent from Cliff Robinson but in effect the trade looks like this:
Elden Campbell
Bob Sura
for
Cliff Robinson
Jon Barry
In that case I'd rather have Elden Campbell, because he will atleast grab boards. Plus, he adds another inside presence. And Bob Sura for JB seems pretty good on the Pistons side as well. I'll miss JB, but too many wild plays became a problem last year.
Good trade.

Pretty good trade for both teams I think. I know Cliff has 2 years left on his contract. How long is Sura's?

Bob Sura has a pretty large contract that will come off the books after this season. So, in effect the Pistons greatly increased their chances of keeping Mehmet Okur on the team. Detroit will now have some decent flexibility with Sura, Rebraca, Davis, Curry, and Memo becoming free agents. Memo should be kept around, but we very well could have a little bit of money to sign somebody else, if we can somehow move Chucky and Corliss' contracts.

Update:
Joe Dumars will be on WDFN 1130 The Fan, the Stoney and Wojo show at 3:35 to discuss this trade. It will be interesting to hear what he has to say.

Sweet, cap room for next season (Sura's contact is expired after this season)! We will more than likely keep Memo with this money, plus get rid of a potential headache with Robinson complaining about being on the end of the bench.

Damn Uncle Cliffy's gone
We should roll up a fat one and get a penicillin shot in his memory
I do like the Trade for it had to be done to get rid of the log jam , get a backup sharp shooter and to get cap space. I kinda wished we got more...but hey I am greedy

For part of the season Bob Sura and Earl Boykins were taking the place of Arenas and J-Rich in the fourth quarters. That shows he can get the job done. He kinda looks like Em too. Welcome Bob! Thanks for the years Cliff!

I like the trade. We needed to free up some space in our back court and Sura is somewhat similar to Barry. He is the type of guy that gets the crowd going. Barry was the better shooter but Sura is more athletic. This trade means Chucky Atkins will need to step up and be able to hit that 3 pointer regularly as he will be the only one on the second team who can. Here is how I think the depth chart shakes out.
C Campbell/Okur/Rebraca
PF Wallace/Darko
SF Prince/Williamson/Curry
SG Hamilton/Sura/Davis
PG Billups/Atkins
We still have a lot of depth at center.
