C. Billups: His upcoming season...
Even though he played great last season, most of it came after the all-star break when he became more agressive. I really expect him to have his breakout season this year and show why he was drafted so high. He has been quoted as saying he is going to be a lot more agressive this year, he's just entering his prime, and he's going to be playing a lot more off the ball which should boost his scoring. He probaly won't make the all-star team because of he guard depth in the East, but I do expect to see more of these 11 points in 42 second barrages he always comes up with... When he's on he can shoot with the best of them.
Something Paul Pierce had to say about Chauncey:
Quote:
|
"Chauncey Billups is a basketball player," said the Celtics' Paul Pierce, who scored 20 points before fouling out. "What I mean is, he's a guy you just put him on the court and let him play. I've been knowing Chauncey since high school. He has a great basketball mind. He's one of the smartest players in the league."
|
I can see him putting up 17-18 ppg and 5 assists/gm
All-Star? Stats?
Nice article about Brown/Billups relationship: http://www.freep.com/sports/pistons/...5_20031015.htm

I'd love to see Chauncey be an all-star this year, but it's probably not going to happen. After the all-star break last year he definately played like an all-star.
I'd look at maybe 18-20 points per game and 5 dimes per as a very successful season.

i think that he should be....I mean look at what this guy did in the crunch time alone.....he just can shoot the house down and i think that the only reason that we didn't win any against NJ, was because Chance was hurt, I think that he deserves to be in the all-star game because look at what he has done for the Pistons....Damn!!!!!!!

He is a great player but not an Iverson or a T-Mac, or a Kidd or a Pierce. LeBron will probably start so that is one less spot for him to take.
I think Billups will always be underrated for the rest of his career, oh well...as long as we know he is wicked and Joe Dumars thinks the same.

Billups:
PPG- 21.2
APG- 5.6
SPG- 1.4
So far so good, his shooting percentage is only 39.2% but a big part of that perentage is the first game where he went 3-17. Minus the first game where he only had 8 pts and he's averaging 24.5 ppg... Looks like Jvanbusk was right on, at least so far...

Billups had a great second half no doubt. But he is still very inconsistent it seems. At times he is lights out brilliant and others he will make some crazy turnover or take some ill advised shot.
I also think he has a problem running the offense at times. He gets the ball to the wrong people at the wrong spot on the floor sometimes.
All of those things are very correctable problems and I do see the potential there for him to be a good PG. He just needs some more work and some more time.

After a stellar season and a NBA Finals MVP under his belt CBS Sportsline has moved up to #4 on their PG rankings. A bit generousif you ask me, but it's always nice to get love.
One notable exception from the list -- Jamal Tinsley... j/k
Quote:
1. Jason Kidd, New Jersey Nets: He is 31 and his knee is a problem, but he's still the best at running an offense and his teammates love him.
2. Allen Iverson, Philadelphia 76ers: This will be the most interesting season for the most exciting guard in the league to prove he can run an offense.
3. Baron Davis, New Orleans Hornets: He is so gifted, and potentially better than any of these guys, but he's just too selfish too often.
4. Chauncey Billups, Detroit Pistons: When Joe Dumars signed him as a free agent, he saw a lot of himself in Billups. This season we'll find out.
5. Sam Cassell, Minnesota Timberwolves: Last season will be a tough act for him to follow, but if he does, the Timberwolves have a great shot to win the West.

Any predictions on Chauncey for this season?

I do believe that he is just gonna have a better season. I think that he has a chnce to become an all star, he has some respect now, and i think that he can continue to be a great PG for years to come
