Game Thread: Pacers vs Pistons 10/29
Well its the first game of the season. I don't really have a feeling either way about this game. Both the pistons and pacers have new coaches and both teams have had to deal with injuries. I do like the pistons chances tonight though.

We have most of our players healthy tonight right? To me a lot depends on how the Pistons come out. If we come out flat, I could very well see us losing this game. But if we come out with an attitude and a chip on our shoulder to show the pre-season was nothing I could see us taking this game. Hopefully the whole team will have the same tone as Ben when he made this comment:
Quote:
|
"It's definitely going to be different," he said. "It's definitely going to be something I never experienced before. But I figure you go over, shake his hand, wish him good luck and then go out and beat on his team.
|
Then later:
Quote:
|
"Like I said, I am going to wish him luck and then go out and try to give him his first L (loss)."
|
And Chauncey:
Quote:
|
"They (the Pacers) have kind of made this into a little rivalry, with Ron Artest's antics and some other stuff," Chauncey Billups said. "Now, there's going to be some extra juice on it, for sure. But, man, it's opening night. It doesn't really matter who we play, it would be an emotional night."

Damn, good game Pistons. Pass the ball to Chauncey Okur, not a litte hesitation fade away three. Darko didn't get in. I guess I will go update my sig.

Chauncey and Rip combined for 6-31 shooting. Geez, you have to imagine they won't play that bad again for the rest of the season. Our front line looked awesome tonight, vastly improved.
Okur is a beat. Not only has he greatly improved down low, but he's turning into a great shot blocker as well.

My thoughts exactly... Rip and Chauncey just couldn't get it going. Both were missing shots they normally make.

Do you think it was just an off night for them, or do you think their poor play was a result of the Pacers's defence?

Chauncey and Rip sucked it up big time...not only did they go a combined 6-31, but they couldn't figure out that Reggie Miller, Ron Artest, and Kenny Anderson will make their shots if left wide open. It's a shame that they wasted such a strong effort from the frontcourt. Any loss is a disappointment, but if Memo and Tayshaun (and Ben) can perform like that every night the Pistons will be much better than last year.

Still, I have to wonder WTF Okur was thinking? Hm...let's just back up and get doubled and take the little 3 point shot that has about a 3% chance of going in...instead of....hm....pass to the OPEN person!

Or go inside and get the 2 points, O'Neal had 5 fouls, I liked our chances in overtime.
Hell, we even still had a timeout.

I most definitely second that. I hate to say it, but I don't think Artest defense really would bother a player like Rip. He never really goes one on one with a guy, he's always coming off screens for shots. Stop and pop, kind of like Reggie Miller, it's kind of hard to actually stop Rip from that point of view, even with a great defender like Ron, because he never really gets a chance to actually play defense.
