Bobcats taking Elden?
Quote:
Building Bobcats
Bernie Bickerstaff is the general manager and coach of the expansion Charlotte Bobcats, and a lot of team executives around the league would like to know what he’s thinking.
He isn’t about to get specific, but he does have general ideas about how he will approach the expansion draft.
“Our first pick is very valuable to us and to our franchise,” he said. “It would have to be something monumental for us to consider (trading it).”
He made it clear that he would not be interested in taking players with expensive, long-term contracts.
“The veterans that we want now are guys with one or two years left (on their contracts) and who are good in the locker room and can help our young kids,” Bickerstaff said. “Our kids are going to be the show.”
So, you can rule out Mavericks players Antawn Jamison and Antoine Walker, though one of those two might be left unprotected, with Jamison heavily, and wrongfully, rumored to be on Bickerstaff’s short list.
One player who seems to fill his bill, and most likely will be left unprotected, is the Pistons’ Elden Campbell, who played in Charlotte and will be in the final year of his contract.

I hope so, that would enable us to offer money to both Sheed and Okur, keeping them in Pistons uni's for the forseeable future. I know some of the guys around here don't find it necessary to keep both because we have Darko but I'd rather keep both.

We have to try to keep both until Darko's proven he's ready for consistant minutes. If the Bobcat's take Elden, that opens up his spot minutes for Darko anyway. Ten or so every couple games isn't much, but it's a start.

I agree, that's my main reason with wanting to keep them both. Sheed/Memo, Ben, and Darko up front just isn't enough. I'd much rather have a situation like this year where we have 4 capable big men instead of two. If Elden does get picked up, I'm hoping Joe D. would go after some FA big man, that can provide some quality backup minutes.

4 guys at the 4/5 is plenty, you want another year of darko sitting on the floor? i sure dont. also are the pistons going to have to leave others unprotected. i think you cant leave off restricted free agents like memo.

We have to protect Memo because he's partially restricted. We don't have to protect Delfino, because he's not under contract. This is what I see:
Protected:
Billups
Hamilton
Prince
Wallace
Okur
Milicic
Williamson
Unprotected:
Campbell
This enables us to keep both 'Sheed and Memo. I'm in favor of keeping both, because our guys are so versitale that Sheed can play the 3,4,5; Memo the 4,5; Ben the 4,5; and I could see Darko eventually being a 3,4,5. I think Darko will mostly be a PF/C, but because of Sheed's flexability we should keep both.
We'd be looking at Sheed, Prince and Delfino at the 3, though one of the two will back up Rip. That leaves Ben, Memo, and Darko for two positions.

I was quite surprised when the Pistons didn't use Elden at least 20 MPG. He is a pretty bulky body, and in the Eastern Conference can be a useful player off the bench.

When I said "Sheed/Memo" I meant that as either or not both. My fault for the mistake.
On second thought I may be misunderstanding you. I only want Darko as the fourth big man if he can provide some quality PT.

Where do I sign up for this? I'm a pretty solid supporter of Elden, I think he provides a nice veteran presence in the middle for us. But, he just doesn't get enough burn to justify his salary. If it means that there is more money to throw at Memo/Rasheed, how is that a bad thing?
Personally, I'd rather keep both Memo and Rasheed, especially if we make a nice run in the playoffs. But, I do worry about where Darko is going to get playing time. Next year he should be on the court.

have you and jvanbusk changed places, now you arent even sure you want darko as the 4th guy in a 4/5 rotation and jvb worries about darko not playing, now i'm confused.

I say try a line-up of this at least once in the season next year...
C. Mehmet Okur
PF. Ben Wallace
SF. Darko Milicic
SG. Rasheed Wallace
PG. Tayshaun Prince
At least once, it is like 8th graders vs 5th graders all over again.

I'm confused too. I want Darko to play, but not at the expense of the team. I would love for him to be the fourth guy behind Ben, Sheed, and Memo provided that he can play quality minutes. By quality I mean looking like he belongs on the court.
