Sheed Staying in Motown....says Stoudamire

Ex-mate says Wallace-to-Knicks unlikely

Remember how Rasheed Wallace talked last weekend about the possibility of coming to the Knicks this summer? Don't get too excited. Less than two days later, one of Wallace's closest pals effectively shot down the idea.
"If Rasheed was still in Atlanta, then I think there'd be more of a chance that he might come to New York for the mid-level (exception)," Damon Stoudamire said when Portland was in the Garden this past week. "But I don't think he wants to leave Detroit. I've talked to him a few times and he likes everything about it. The only thing he doesn't like is that his family isn't there with him."

The Pistons are expected to go all out to re-sign Wallace, who is making $17 million this season. That would more than cover the moving costs to bring his family in from Portland. Meanwhile, the most Isiah Thomas can offer a player he truly covets is the mid-level, starting at around $5 mil per.

"But I don't see him turning down the money from Detroit," Stoudamire said. "He's got one more big contract left, and Detroit has anointed him their No. 1 guy. So I'd think they're looking at giving him something big."

Besides being able to sign for more money in Detroit than any other team can pay him, Stoudamire says that Detroit is exactly the kind of team Wallace wants to play for.

"Winning is important to him, and he likes that team a lot," the Blazers guard said. "When you're playing alongside another big, young forward, and their backcourt is set and their bench is solid, he knows they've got the pieces to win there. He thinks that team can go a long way. In order for him to leave, somebody is going to have to top that"

Sounds like Isiah will have to look elsewhere for a dominant big man.

Rasheed is a really nice fit for this team. The only problem I forsee in the future is trying to juggle playing time between Ben Wallace, Rasheed Wallace, Mehmet Okur, and Darko Milicic.

How do you figure they will have trouble?

Darko will need 2-4 more years to completely blossom.

So you figure to keep playing him 2 minutes per game the next 4 years?? To "fully blossom" as you say he will need to start playing around 15-20 minutes per game starting next year.

It was definitely great to see Sheed in the Wallace x2 official T-Shirt in the post game interview and it was also great to see him with the Ben Wallace "No Fly Zone" wristbands. He really seems to be enjoying his time in a Pistons uni and the feeling is mutual.
