Better Pistons backup guard combo...

Who do you prefer?

The current James/Hunter duo or the previous Barry/Atkins duo.

Hunter and James thrive on defense while Atkins and Barry thrived on shooting.

Barry and Atkins were more exciting, but I'm starting to think Hunter/James is better. Defense is something you can bring every night, while offense is fleeting at times. Plus, it seems like James gets more assists as a backup than Chucky used to as a starter. The scoring is the only thing Chucky and Barry were better at, but at least Hunter and James both have servicable outside shots (a lot better than Sura at least).

I like Mike James. However, Lindsey Hunter is just terrible.

Lindsey Hunter pressures the ball better than anyone in the NBA. The 3/4 court trap that has made Detroit's defense so frustrating is all Lindsey.

It's not a coincidence that our sub-70 streak started in Portland the day Lindsey got the start at shooting guard for the injured Rip Hamilton.

I don't know where that came from. He stank it up in Toronto last season.

I think he's realized that he is not a scoring guard anymore, and now prides himself a lot more on his defense. Plus Larry Brown is THE perfect coach for him. He values defensive intensity and knows how to use each players defensive skills. My guess is that in Toronto Wilkens just wasn't using him right.

Detroit is playing Toronto Friday so you Canadians will get to see the game. Watch as the Raptor's point guards struggle to perform even the simplest of tasks against Lindsey and Mike James's full court pressure.

You're saying that Lindsey Hunter and Mike James can stop Jalen Rose and Vince Carter.

On another note, keep in mind that Lindsey was injured last season with the Raps, which in turn might have hurt his playing ability when he did play.

Tayshaun will probably guard Vince, but I can see Jalen having a real problem bringing the ball up the floor against Lindsey.

I'll take the Atkins/Barry duo.

Talk to me after the playoffs, then maybe my opinion will be different. James and Hunter haven't been at it for long enough. And the energy that Atkins/Barry would bring to this team was unreal. The Palace was always rockin with JB.

this is a tough one, but I think that I am gonna have to go with Hunter/James, the reason because I think that when the bench players some in they should be a tough def team like james and hunter, they pressure and do what they want against the less skilled bench squad

This is my theory, I didn't read any of the thread because I am going to bed soon lol...

Hunter and James are defence
The Pistons are defence

Might aswell go all out if you are gonna be a defensive beast team.

With Barry and Atkins it was offence on a defence team which takes us away from what makes us good in the first place.

The NBA is a business so it can be compared to such. If a Sporting store started selling half sports stuff and half groceries it wouldn't be as effective. So why not keep it all defence?

The other night, during the Pistons game (shown on UPN50 in Detroit) they played an interview with Iverson saying that Hunter is the best 1 on 1 defender he's ever played against.

So how does that make Hunter terrible? Atkins got burned by Kenny Anderson and many other PGs in the playoffs. Gimme Lindsay, the stones have guys that can score.

I definitly take Lindsey Hunter and Mike James! I like their hustle play and their ability to shoot threes from every spot on the court (and hit them!!!)!
