Pistons Awards
I thought it would be kind of cool to do the end of season awards (MVP, etc.) for our team. Obviously, it doesn't make sense to do some of them (Rookie, Coach, GM) because there is only one of them on our team. But here are my thoughts on the others..
MVP: Rasheed Wallace. On the one hand, it's very hard to give this award to a guy who only played 22 games as a Piston, especially when he's getting it over Ben. But let's be honest. Before Rasheed came, the Pistons were wildly inconsistent, with one 6 game losing streak and another period losing 7 of 9. A repeat loss in the ECF was the best case scenario and the future was uncertain to say the least. After Rasheed came, that all changed, and he is the reason the Pistons are a serious contender for the NBA championship.
Most Improved Player: Rip Hamilton. You could make a case for Tayshaun or Memo, but I think Rip is the better chase. Not only has he consistently scored when needed all year, he's become a much more complete player and has really improved his decision making.
Defensive Player of the Year: Ben Wallace. Looks like he's going to get robbed of his third straight in the league, but I doubt anyone's going to disagree here.
6th Man: Corliss Williamson. I never thought I would be saying this back in November, but Corliss has really been important to this team as of late. He's converting more shots, committing less stupid fouls and making less turnovers. Mehmet is also a contender, but almost all of his good performances came when he started instead of coming off the bench.
