Darko will not be a bust. I have to give Dumars the benefit of the doubt because of everything Dumars has been able to do as GM. This has been the staple of Dumars decisions in Motown, that it may not start as emphatic as people want as we nowadays want everything RIGHT NOW, but quietly Dumars and the Pistons front office have built a top notch organization in Detroit. Darko will get plenty of opportunity so don't worry about that aspect

Also, if the Pistons had Carmelo, there is no way Atlanta and Boston would have been willing to send Sheed to Detroit.
And why is that? Both ATL and BOS got their picks in the deal. ATL kept their books clean. They are both so far away from Detroit and Indy why would they care? They improved their teams.
No way Melo stays on the bench. Coach Brown was pleading with Joe to take Melo. He wanted the help now, not a project 7 footer.
Considering both Wallaces will be 30 at the beginning of next year, they'll keep Darko as long as they can. In his fourth year, if he hasn't already turned into a starter, he should get substantial minutes as both of these guys start playing reduced minutes as they age.
I don't see why everyone is making a huge deal about finding minutes for Darko next season even if Detroit resigns Memo and Sheed. If Campbell is taken in the expansion draft, just give Darko his minutes if he is ready. Don't forget, throughout the season Wallace, Wallace, Okur, Campbell, Rebraca, and Williamson all saw significant PT down low at some point. Rebraca is gone and there's a good possibility Campbell could be by next season as well. There will be time for Darko even if Wallace and Okur are back. People talk like one offseason is going to turn Milicic into a starting caliber player. Well that's not going to happen. There's no reason to free up a ton of room for him when he won't even be ready to step in. He'll be ready for more minutes for sure but not ready enough to be the first big man off the bench like somepeople seem to be saying.
As for the question of the thread, yes Darko's future is with Detroit.

I am sure Detroit would love to move Okur/Prince for AK47
Omg, AK47 in Detroit would own! They would be the best friggin' defensive team ever! I'd love to see that!
Anyway, I'll take sides on this one. I think Detroit should let Okur go, so they can develop Darko as quick as possible. You have to make the most of his years in the NBA and remember, if you don't give a player playing time, there is a possibility he'd turn sour and take every shot in sight. So yeah, benching a player that's hyped up and pretty big on his hype might turn him into Kobe (trying to prove something by overdoing stuff)

I'm not high on Darko. He is going to take a LONG time to be a useful player. He will stay in Detroit until his rookie contract is up, but they may have lost patience by then. he really doesn't look natural on the court. His awareness is pretty poor.
I know he's only 18/19, but I am concerned about his lack of instinct. I really can't see (yet) the potential he his supposed to have.
Mind you, I'm rooting for him to be great. Detroit could be awesome in 2-3 years, and swing the balance of power back east. But, I'm not yet convinced that their future includes Darko.

Just a question, but are you basing any of this on the game yesterday?
He has shown continous improvement throughout the season. He has a lot of really good post moves, but has trouble executing them because for some reason teams double team him every time he touches the ball anywhere near the block. He is a very good shotblocker and has the quickness and length to disrupt passing lanes, but his defensive rotations are a bit shaky at times. He is also a very good passer, but because he only gets garbage minutes, the fans are always screaming at him to score which I think has made it tough for him to just come out and play.
When Darko has a good game, people always point to the fact that it was in garbage minutes. But I think he would actually do a lot better in first half minutes, when the pressure is on him to play good basketball and not just score points.
Two times this season he has gotten into the game in the first half- both against Sacramento. The first time he got 4 second quarter minutes do to a Ben Wallace injury. He blocked Brad Miller twice, stripped the ball from him once, grabbed a rebound, and didn't take a shot from the field. The second time he got 6 first half minutes because of a Mehmet Okur injury, Detroit was down around 15 when he came in the game and everyone looked dead. He gave the team a spark, starting a fast break with a steal and scoring 2 points and by the time he left the game they lead was cut to 5.
Darko wasn't going to be a dominant scorer this year no matter what, but when he gets his garbage minutes that's what the fans are screaming for him to be.
I think if he had more time in situations where the outcome of the game was in doubt, people would have gotten a clearer view of what his game was like.
If you're going to take anything from his first season, it's that he is a very good shot blocker and a very good passer, has a soft touch and a lot of moves, but his game needs refining to bring all of his talents together.
That's a nice point. From that, Darko sounds like a very good team player and a defensive powerhouse. I might actually live to see the most dominant defensive team ever.

Darko has no future with the Pistons. He'll sit on the bench there until his rookie contract runs out and then he will be considered a bust. Not because he sucks but because they wont give him a chance. Hopefully he will then go to another team and put it the Pistons face.
