Re: Canadian schools eye D2
I think only UBC and Simon Fraser ever officially applied to the D2. There was interest from some others however resources would not make it viable.

Knoxville College has plans to reinstate athletics
Basketball first
possibly soccer and track
News Sentinel staff
Friday, March 14, 2008
Knoxville College is banking on veteran Knoxville athletics official Raleigh Wynn to get the Bulldogs back on the basketball court.
And if Wynn has his way, Knoxville College will have teams in soccer and track. There are no plans to reinstate football.
"Knoxville College will reinstate athletics this year," Wynn said Thursday.
"Things have been OK'd by Dr. Robert Harvey and Dr. Johnny Cannon, who are interim leaders of KC," said Wynn, the former athletic director at Austin-East High School and football and basketball official in high school and the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Wynn, who said he accepted the job of athletic director at the beckoning of Harvey and Cannon, hopes to have a kickoff fundraiser for the athletic program shortly after the end of Knoxville College's spring break, which is March 22.
Once Wynn gets a gauge on the finances available he will hire coaches for men's and women's basketball, he said. Uniforms from the Bulldogs' last basketball team "are in storage and like new."
"We expect to play in NCAA Division II and Division III," Wynn said. "In fact, I have already scheduled games with two schools in November. One is Virginia State."
He said the reason soccer is in the plans is that "a good part of our enrollment are international students."
He also cited that expenses for soccer and track likely will be affordable.
Wynn said coaches wishing to schedule with KC may reach him at 865-524-6580 or 936-1267, or by writing to him at 901 Knoxville College Dr., Knoxville, 37921.
Wynn played football and basketball at Tennessee State University and lettered in track. He is a member of Knoxville Sports Hall of Fame.

Re: Knoxville College has plans to reinstate athletics
That's good to hear. Knoxville's just a hop, skip, and a jump down I-75...

Virginia Union's Robbins retiring
Monday, Apr 14, 2008 - 08:29 PM Updated: 08:55 PM
BY RALPH N. PAULK
Times-Dispatch Staff Writer
Dave Robbins is expected to step down tomorrow after 30 years as Virginia Union University's men's basketball coach.
Robbins won 713 games and three national titles at Virginia Union. He became the first white coach in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, an NCAA Division II conference for historically black colleges, when he took over the basketball program in 1978 .
Virginia Union has called a news conference for "a major announcement" tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the L. Douglas Wilder Library Lecture Hall. School officials invited the public to attend the news conference.
Repeated attempts to reach Robbins yesterday were unsuccessful. Athletic Director Michael Bailey did not return calls placed to his office. Sources told the Times-Dispatch that Robbins will retire.
Robbins, who has two years remaining on his contract, has said he has been pondering retirement for some time.

Shaw Announces Hill as New Men's Basketball Coach
Shaw Announces Hill as New Men's Basketball Coach
Raleigh, NC - (April 9, 2008) A Press Conference is scheduled for Thursday, April 10th at 10:30 a.m. to introduce Cleo Hill, Jr. as the new Men's Basketball Coach at Shaw University in the Third Floor Conference Room. Coach Hill has had successful experience at the high school, Division I and II levels. He has a proven track record of winning on and off the court with his team finishing the 2006-2007 season with a cumulative 2.7 GPA. He stresses graduation and life after basketball; four of his players made the All-Academic team last year.
Formerly the Head Men's Basketball Coach at Cheyney University since 2003, Coach Hill led his team to receive a bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament in the 2007-2008 and 2003-2004 seasons. Cheyney was ranked in the top ten of the NCAA Eastern Region for four consecutive weeks during the 2007-2008 season ending in fifth place and was the #1 seed in the East for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) with a 10-2 overall record. Coach Hill was named the PSAC Men's Basketball Coach of the Year in the Eastern Division and he had two players named to the PSAC All-Conference 1st Team and one to the 2nd Team. Last year, he led the Wolves to the PSAC Championship game after defeating the #2 seed in the East and the #1 seed in the West; first time in the school's history in more than 20 years.
Coach Hill was an Assistant Men's Basketball Coach at Shaw University from 2000-2002 and helped to lead the Bears to their first CIAA Conference Championship. The team reached the NCAA Division II Elite Eight and advanced to the final four during the 2001-2002 season. The same year they were also the NCAA Division II South Atlantic Regional Champions and Eastern Division CIAA Champions finishing with a 28-5 overall record. He also held Assistant coaching positions at the University of Nebraska and Mt. Zion Christian Academy in Durham, North Carolina.
Hill takes over the Bears program following a season with an overall record of 5-23; 1-17 CIAA and 1-7 in the Division. He stated, "My expectations for the team are clear. We will work hard on and off the court and represent Shaw University well in all that we do. When you teach a group of people from different backgrounds, ethnicities and habits how to think as one, you will have a winner in all aspects of life and sports." With great excitement, the Shaw Family welcomes Coach Cleo Hill, Jr. and his wife, Regina back to the University.

Chris Morrow To West Liberty
.jpg)
Van Wert basketball standout Chris Morrow signed his letter of intent on Wednesday to play for West Liberty State College in West Virginia. Morrow, who plans to major in communications, said he likes the campus, which is situated (where else?) on a hill not too far from Wheeling, W.Va. Morrow said he was told he might start for the Hilltoppers, an NCAA Division II school, in his freshman year, but said he planned to just go and do his best. Also on hand for the letter signing was Morrow’s grandfather, legendary Kalida boys’ basketball coach **** Kortokrax, who said the occasion was special to him. “As a coach, I’ve had two families: my basketball family and my real family,” Kortokrax said. Noting that he has participated in a number of letter signings as a coach, Kortokrax said it was especially nice to be able to do so for a family member. Shown in the photo with Morrow seated center) are (seated, from the left) Coach Kortokrax, Morrow’s father, Mike; his mother, Diana; and grandmother, Donna Kortokrax. Standing are VWHS boys’ basketball coach Dave Froelich and Van Wert Athletic Director Kent Smelser
