Spencer Hawes is a 6 foot 10.5 inch (without shoes) Center with a 7 foot 1 inch wingspan and 9 foot 1 inch standing reach. He already has good post moves based upon probably the best footwork in his age group. He can also finish with either hand and hit the mid range jump shot and is in his Freshman year at Washington.
Great feel for the game, both his dad and his uncle(Steve Hawes) played ball. Spencer is a kid with a ton of potential that isnt there physically yet. Will have to decide whether he wants to be a possible late lottery pick in 07 or a possible top 3 pick in 08. Family doesnt seem to need the money so he would do well to stay a couple of years at the UW. i think its important to become a better player before thinking of running to the nba but maybe i'm in the minority there.
Hawes is one of the reasons I'm still against the age limit for the league. The guy is already very skilled; he should be practicing and training with an NBA team right now.

He just turned 18 back in the spring, what are they going to do let him hang out in the lobby when the rest of the players are having a beer? The family doesnt appear to need the money so he is fine where he's at. I have a problem with kids that arent ready taking the roster spot of some veteran who needs to put food on the table who actually knows the game. I actually think he'll stay another year after this year.

LOL...how can you pretend to know his family's financial situation?
Anyway, I am all for someone like him taking a roster spot from Terrance Kinsey.

Well with the millions he would have earned this year if he could've jumped, he could pay someone to get beer for him.
Also, I'm not close at all to feeling sorry for a veteran who can barely put food on the table at the paltry $1m+ salary he makes. If he's good enough to get an NBA roster spot, he's good enough to make high six figures overseas. Nobody's starving here.
I don't care what Hawes does, but I'm still not convinced that the age limit rule helps the professional careers of elite prospects.

I've been disappointed when I've watched him. Washington has played a bunch of cupcakes with about 6'8" post players, yet he's only averaging 5 rebounds per game.

You're unimpressed with every player not wearing a gonzaga uniform.

give me a little credit here, he went to Seattle Prep which costs what some colleges cost. His uncle played in the nba, i'm going to go out on a limb here and say the family isnt hurting for dough. just a guess.
I agree with zagsfan. I was expecting more for Hawes early in the season. He is still a freshman, but I was expecting him to come out and put up about 14 and 8 every game.

he had very little preseason because of a leg injury, in the games i've seen him play he is better than i thought, shooting 57%. give him some time he's going to be good one.
