Mustafa Shakur

PG-SG combo guard for the Arizona Wildcats. 4 year player. Great ball handling skills, can be very inconsistent, but this season I think he has played pretty good ball. Some team might pick him up towards the end of the draft or early second round, he definitely has NBA type skills.

Shakur Draft express profile

Boy if this guy falls to the end of the draft he could be a steal. He can break down anyone of the dribble and can find players nicely.

Re: Mustafa Shakur

Thank you for making this thread. I just went through the 3 pages of these profiles looking for him. I couldn't believe he didn't have his own thread. I haven't liked this kid for 3 years. He finally isn't forcing things. He makes smart passes. He takes smart shots. I really, really like Shakur.

Re: Mustafa Shakur

So what was his problem? Do you think it's finally not having cancerous players like Salim Stoudamire and Chris Rodgers around?

Re: Mustafa Shakur

Growing up. Getting rid of those guys didn't hurt. I liked Salim. Rodgers was trouble every time he stepped on the court.

If Hassan Adams got drafted and is making a nice impact then I believe he should as well because many believed he was more talented than Adams anyway

Urkel's playing his way into the late first. This season's tremendously salvaged his stock.

That is one of the problems, oh yeh lets not forget Hassan Adams too. I love Hassan, but he is another player who took a toll on Shakur.

Mustafa is finally attacking the basket on every possession. The past 3 years Staf was a wildman with the ball. While he hasnt slowed down any, he has made a few minor adjustments that are helping him out tremendously.

#1 - He is pulling up just under the foul line. For three years, Mustafa has been over penetrating and in return turning the ball over and closing all passing lanes. Now when Staf beats his man he will either pass the ball a step under the foul line. If he passes this point he tries to finish.

#2 - He is under control and smart in a half court set. This year Mustafa is taking his time and setting up his offense. Arizona doesnt run many plays and this allows Mustafa to arrange the offense as he sees fit. Since he is taking his time, he now realizes the mismatches and calls a lot of pick and rolls with Radenovic. He also sends his wings to the corners so that when he drives the defense collapses on him and opens a lane for his cutter.

Overall, Mustafa is playing like an All-American point guard. He is playing smart, creating passing lanes and coming up with big baskets when his team needs them. Those NBA scouts and Lute Olson finally got through to him and he is reaping the benefits

i don't really see the resemblance but that may be because i didn't see Terry in UA but i would think he was a better shooter. Shakur's form looks weird.

Re: Mustafa Shakur

The only comparison between Terry and Shakur is their speed and defense.

Terry was a good shooter, could score with the best of Arizona's guards, and was always a solid player that exploded in his senior season.

Shakur has been inconsistent except for this season. Shakur rebounds much better than Terry, but has no where near the scoring ability.
