Well, considering Collins and Boone were both horrendous FT shooters, Brook's 55% is actually promising.
As for croco's post, preseason is not summer league. Its actually NBA competition out there. Besides after the first 3 preseason games, the effort picks up.
It's called preseason for good reason, established players and vets don't play hard, the better players only see limited action, coaches tinker with the lineups, usually no NBA crowds, you don't have to travel as much. I'm sure there are many more reasons why the preseason doesn't matter much. The only difference to the summer league is that you might see some indications, but not too much.
Lopez isn't gonna average 11/8 for the season and I doubt he will get as many minutes as he did in the preseason. One reason will be foul problems, secondly Lawrence Frank's reluctance when it comes to rookies and meaningful minutes and most importantly he just isn't that good.
Preseason is a whole lot of things for various teams. Why are the Bulls and Heat raving over their first round picks because of their preseason performance? Same goes for OJ Mayo, Eric Gordon and other rookies that held their own. I am not saying its the best measure of how a rookie will play in the league, but he does give an insight into how well their game might translate when the season starts.
Actually Lopez CAN average 11/8 for the season. Thats unexpectedly low for him. Boone averaged 10/10 last year. I can't say Boone does one thing better than Lopez, maybe he has the rebounding edge.
As for Frank, there's no reluctance to rookies, he just won't play guys that aren't ready. Sean Williams and Marcus Williams all had their opportunity to shine. Both players started games last season. Who's going to challenge Brook for the starting position? Boone, Swift??? Are those guys really that much better?
I'll be shocked if Boone isn't the Nets starting center by the end of the season. As for him not being that good? When was the last time you saw him play? Every single pundit that has watched him play from summer league to his final preseason game have said he has the tools and ability to be very good. The guy is 7 ft 260lbs with room to grow. As for established players not playing hard, I am not sure about that. I have seen some stars really go hard at it during the few games I got to watch.
Actually, Boone averaged 8/7 in 25 minutes, that's far from 10/10. Those numbers appear to be realistic for Lopez though, on the other hand that is nothing to brag about.
I have seen a couple of Nets games in the preseason and he was solid. I'm just not a fan of summer league or preseason conclusions and so far I have seen no reason to back off of my opinion stated about him.
I like Lopez's potential a lot better based on where he was selected. If he was a top 3 pick, I don't think he could have lived up to expectations. I think he'll do fine now.

You got me there although I didn't mean it that way.
i agree with all the statistics are meaningless but if free throw percentage is usually poor in the preseason its an indiction how it will be when the actual season starts. i expect that most of lopez's stats will go down. no way he can keep up that fg percentage and i wouldnt be surprised if it fell 10 points

Brook was my fifth best prospect (after Rose, Beasley, Mayo, and Bayless) for this draft after he measured out excellent (over 7' in shoes, 7'5 wingspan, 255lbs w/ like 6% bodyfat); low selection almost as surprising as Bayless'. His FG% wasn't outstanding in college, but he was their only real offensive weapon. I think he ends up much better than a Mihm and could eventually reach a Kaman level (15/10/2.5bpg).

8pts 8reb 2blks in 25 minutes off the bench last night.
I knew he was gonna be a big time player, alot of people bashed him, but I was one of the few people who was very high on him. I'm not worried about his FT%, he was a pretty good FT shooter last season.
