Yi Jianlian is a 7 foot PF/C from China. He plays for the Guangdong Tigers and his team has give their permission for him to enter the 2007 NBA Draft. He still needs to gain permission from the CBA as they have a rule that players aren't allowed to enter the draft until they are 22. Yi is 19.
The mystery man. So far from what I have seen he definitely has intriguing skills. Plays like he was 6'6 instead of 7 foot. But the real draw about him is the $$$$$ teams will hope to make from his marketability. That might also affects where he goes in the draft.
coach says he's not pleased with his progress. that being talented is not enough, you have to fight for every step. makes sense, everyone's just waiting for him to dominate. if he can pick it up it needs to be now, he could go as low as early second round if he doesn't make any progress.
The game you're referring to it says he also had 14 and 6 in 22 minutes because of foul trouble. I'm just the opposite of a lot of the negative talk on this kid, whether its his age or he should be doing this or that... the kid has as much potential as anyone in this draft at the 4 position, video i've seen of him shows great quickness, vertical and abilitly with either hand, if he were playing at the collegiate level right now he'd be destroying people. To me he's the first powerforward taken and that includes Brandan Wright. If he shows good at predraft workouts he probably goes 4th or 5th.
I would never take him. If Yao was a mystery despite his domination at the International Level, there is no reading on this guy. To be completely honest he could be the second comming of Ivan Chiariav. Or he could be an All Star. There's no way to tell, but I guarantee that I wouldn't be the guy pulling the trigger on him in the first round.
He's actually 22 as well I believe. What's the age range, is it like 17 to 23?
Nimreitz, would you not have taken Yao no.1 either? If you think he is a mystery man compared to Yao, I would have to disagree. When Yao started to get notice, he was a mystery because scouts were never in China. After Yao got drafted, more and more scouts are going to China to see who is out there.
yi is not doing bad. he's averaging 25.9 ppg and 12.5 rpg. those are solid numbers. he was also impressive in the world games. he'll be a solid pro, imo.
I'd rather see Yi Jianlin slip in the draft so he could go to a title contending team where his marketing value will increase even more. It's possible he could go as far as being selected by the Los Angeles Lakers, PHX Suns, Dallas Mavericks, or Detroit Pistons if people don't want to take the chance on him. But seeing how he's getting a lot of hype...I bet he gets selected in the lottery at least.
I truly hope he falls into the Knicks hand. I really want him here. I am a bit biased because of his background. I am also Asian and I will root for him because the odds are against him. The critics will mock him but all he has to do is to have that drive and motivation that Yao had when people mocked, criticize and threw slurs against him. He will do fine.

I would definitely have taken Yao #1, but he was known because of his international play. It always just seems like Yi is hiding something for some reason.

The only mystery that i have heard of is his age, the oldest he could be all accounts is just turned 22,bfd. I suggest people get some video of this guy(youtube works) and tell me who at the college level can do what this guy can do. As for him dropping to a playoff team give me a break ok.
isn't Wang Zhi Zhi also playing lights out in the Asian games? Yi's best bet is to drop to a playoff team or at least a team that won't depend on him as the franchise player. He might go to Seattle or Golden State which would probaly be good fits for him.
