With that said, I'm interested in raw selvedge right now because it's higher than normal quality, and eventually gets broken in to fit your body perfect. However I really have no idea what I'm doing or what I should look for, and was hoping someone around here might. Although I think I might be sologigolos' friend on facebook, so maybe I'll shoot him a message.

ANYWAY, I started looking around at Levis and their selvedge stuff starts around $150 which is more than I'm willing to pay to be honest. So I started googling and from what I can tell, this pair of Unbranded jeans that they sell at Urban Outfitters is the best deal of any

$78, good fit, and they have physical stores where I can try on a few different sizes and styles first without taking a chance online. Anyone have any thoughts? Levi's 514 Slim Straight is probably the best fit that I have; not too loose, not hipster tight. Levi's has raw 514s, but not Selvedge, so I'm skeptical. Should I be?

EDIT: Reading back through this I come off as a massive douche. But I also have to admit my stupid club fashion sense at the time DID coincide with the period where I've got laid most in my life from hookups.

I've only been wearing selvedge whatever crap ever since this thread and I've dropped some dough on high quality stuff. I've tried the Unbranded Brand in stores and I don't find the quality to be that much better than some Levis stuff.

With that being said, I think it's a good deal if you can get it on sale... I've seen it close to $30-40 on sale. If you're planning on paying full retail, you should check out Naked & Famous jeans. If you buy them from Karmaloop with a 20% off code you can get them at around $80 and they are much better quality than Unbranded

You're definitely the guy I want to talk to. So I found some new selvedge raw 514s on ebay, which are not available on the Levis site anymore. They're also $75-85 with shipping which seems like a pretty damn good deal. I'm also comfortable with Levis and the fit of the slim-straight 514. What do you think? The only thing I'm really concerned about is 1) durability, 2) durability, 3) durability, and 4) fit a little bit. I think the fit will change a lot as I break them in, but the style is important. Anyway, do you think the Levis selvedge will hold up well, or are the Naked & Famous going to just last forever?

N&F is a very good entry to raw denim and it will last a pretty long time depending how much use you are planning to put into it. Again the more usage the faster the fade will occur. Definitely give them a try over levis and or unbranded selvedge.I would definately suggest N&F skinny guy if you are into 514's stay true to size if you want them slim or +1 for more room - N&F wierd guy is tapered if you like tapered denim then give those a look.

Yes please exert your manliness by telling everyone how cheap and ill-fitting your jeans are and how little you care about your clothing.

In terms of durability any pair of cheap Levis will almost last as long as anything you buy. It's really about the quality, the fit, and the details.

I can vouch for the Naked & Famous skinny guys. I think they'll be a bit on the slim side, close to the Levis 511. If you go true to size and let the denim stretch a little it will be a slightly more roomy fit like the 514. Otherwise they have the Slim Guy which is more of a slim straight fit like the 514.

I think if you're going to splurge and care more about an article of clothing, it has to be what you wear the most... and in that case those are a pair of blue jeans.

Damn, you guys really got me. Who would ever want clothes that fit? It's not like I'm spending $300 for Posh Spice's signature on the back pocket, it's like $75 for jeans that I can shrink to fit me perfectly and will last for years. If you buy a new pair of jeans for $20 at JC Penny every year, it's a worse investment than an $80 pair that will last more than 5 years.

To the guys who responded substantively, I won't do anything labeled "skinny". I'm 6'1'' 190, and it's all in the lower body. Has to be a straight fit, not a skinny fit. And I don't really wear any pants on the "true waist", that's why I prefer the 514s over the 501/505, which I find to be quite high and awkward feeling when there's a natural shelf about 2 inches above the top of my Barkley-esque ass.

I didn't at all until I was 22 year old. They're good, man. I've actually been moving back in the direction of chinos lately, but jeans are solid and versatile.
