Re: Jeans/Denim
I rarely wear jeans. I'm a fitted chino guy through and through. I find even if I go top end of the market (well the notch below Boss, Armani but above Levi, Nudie) the fit just doesn't look right, and more importantly they don't feel right.
I got a good laugh from R-Star and Seifers posts.

Re: Jeans/Denim
If I could get that to work, I would go for it. I've tried a couple times and ended up spending a lot of money for jeans I've worn 3 or 4 times.
It's a shame, I want some dark blue selvedge jeans. Maybe I'll try again.

Re: Jeans/Denim
I've thought about experimenting with Levi's 501 Shrink to Fit jeans that I could probably buy for $15 at the crappiest department store in the city on a clearance rack. Not selvedge, but it is raw denim anyway. Could probably get them looking really cool, the only thing I'm worried about is ripping them after all the work. I'll probably grab a pair if I ever see them on a major sale.
What I've learned from googling (and indeed by buying all the club trash bullshit jeans like 4 years ago) is that denim is denim for the most part. Selvedge and raw are the two distinctions because they are higher quality material and look cooler when worn in respectively, but I struggle to see the difference between Levis selvedge and some $500 Japanese selvedge jean. |

Most of that premium comes from the fact you're paying for something not a lot of people will have. That's why I'm always happy to pay it.

Re: Jeans/Denim
Don't get me wrong, I do like that as well, but selvedge is good enough for that whether its Levis or APC or whatever. Roll up the cuff like a hipster if you really want to show it off. If you run in uber douchebag circles and everyone is wearing selvedge jeans, maybe I can see it justified, but not if you're just a regular, albeit image conscious, guy. I asked a bunch of people I know in the past week about selvedge and raw denim and not one person knew what the hell it was. I didn't at all until this thread.

Re: Jeans/Denim
Those cuffs must be rolled. Standard behaviour, get some exciting socks underneath, proper shoes, fitted blazer (preferably tweed), blue or red gingham short sleeve shirt, again roll up the cuffs on the sleeves. Outfit 101.
****, I'm that uber douchebag in the group.

Re: Jeans/Denim
I don't care for young men in tweed, and that outfit is probably not wearable for the next 6 months, but it doesn't seem that douchey to me except for the socks.
But then again I've been known to wear a Prince of Wales Plaid sport coat, which I don't really think young men should wear either, so I'm a hypocrite. Everything fitted though, I agree with that. 60s Bond or Italian style is the model. |

Re: Jeans/Denim
I have a hard time finding fitted pants. I'm a 32 waist and a 36 inseam. They don't make pants for freaks like me so I have to get them tailored.

"these jeans only cost $70. Use the cheap blueprints that make them fit wrong." You silly, silly idiots. Two things: A)I don't look at how much my jeans cost when I buy them because... B)no one in this thread makes as much money as me.

Because I like them. Not for some homosexual bullshit like "ooohhhh they're tapered and they fit my tush so well. The bedazzled pockets really make my ass pop. And those jean designers sure know where to cut the right holes in my jeans. Perfect amount of fray."
