^ As far as the Orthodox Jewish tradition goes, there's a fascinating movie about it called "Trembling Before G-d" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0278102/

I wasn't slagging on MrJayremmie he mentioned that he believed in existing after dying becuase he believes in God. I was just pretty much restating the point I made in the OP and then expanding on that by asking him why God has to come into it, promoting discussion.
All i said was i believe in life after death because i believe in God... don't want this turning into a religion thread there bud.

So how often after you talk to people do you remember exactly what they say? Exactly what they say. Sure you might remember some words and be able to piece together the rest but exact conversations sounds like hyperbole to add significance to a story.
You can think what you want, as i said. But she said she never heard anything more clear in her life and told the anesthiologist EXACTLY what they were saying and he freaked out because it was 100% right. My mom was in the room.

You can try to discredit my story and not believe it all you want, but the fact is stuff like this has been reported MANY times, with the patient saying exactly what they heard, and SEEING things that they shouldn't be able to see because there is tape over their eyes.

Re: Why do/don't you believe in life after death?

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

John 3:16-19

For the wages of sin is death (the reason we die in this life is because death is the penalty for sin); but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 6:23

It's irrelevant if he may have embellished. There are numerous well-supported examples confirming the possibility of this story being entirely accurate.

You don't think that the brain couldn't create the illusion of being out of your body like it can in dreams? You're ears can still receive information when you are unconscious and maybe as she approached death her brain went into overdrive to save itself creating all kinds of illusions, much like it does with that white light thing people hear about.
Your explanation is as speculative as his.

Quote:
I bet she remembered the parts of the conversation that happened right before she went under not while she was dead.
More speculation.

Quote:
Also why does a God have to preside over the afterlife, if there is one? Why can't it just be a place where our energies go once our physical body's are gone? Why does religion have to come into it as well, is it to justify your choice of religion so you can say your were right when everyone else dies and doesn't go to your Gods afterlife? You shouldn't have to justify your faith, sure it'll be great if when you do die you go to heaven but if there isn't an afterlife would you be any less of a person for believing in the morals that your faith condones? Of course not, so it shouldn't be used to give you validation for believing in something.
How is this relevant to the question of whether there's life after death?

Interstingly enough, the majority of people who had not believed in life after death change their minds after a NDE and they no longer have a fear of death. While this fact may be objectively meaningless, it does lead to some reasonable question as to whether a NDE is really just a hallucination.

... and to answer the thread question, I don't believe an objective conclusion can be made one way or another. It's really a subjective opinion. Based on my experiences, and not hopes, I would say that life after death seems more likely than not. It doesn't seem our level of consciousness could come into being by chance, and based on this sense, I find it hard to believe that our full existence can be just the limited and meaningless time (meaningless, that is, if this really is "it") here on this planet. If that were true, we may as well have never existed and experienced our experiences in the first place.

Lol, who is supposed to know that? IDK man, but if you are talking about heaven, i HIGHLY doubt trying to win your wife back will be on your mind whatsoever... Its just not something we can imagine or comprehend dude... we only use, what, 10% of our brains capacity? Its just completely different, you won't be worrying what people think and how your hair looks, who you are with, etc...

Anyways, i'm done here. I don't want to get in a conversation about this here, lol. But seriously, PM me if you want to talk about this. Like with doubts or something. I've studied a lot about God, etc... And i'm not someone that says "If you don't believe this you are going to hell" LMAO.

But having something to live for is great. Not just believing you live a life for like 80 years and then die and get surrounded by black for eternity. I mean, if you believe in God and you are wrong, whats the worst that can happen? You die being a good person? And if you are right...
